Across the UK lights refuse to turn on and alarm clocks refuse to stop.

"My whole house relies on Alexa for lighting, heating, security, doors etc - I'm sitting in a dark house in the cold and the door wont open," wrote one complaint.

The rumour that Bill Gates had spiked the Covid vaccine is clearly ill-founded.

The real threat is Jeff Bezos (Amazon) who is going to use Alexa in a bid for world supremacy.

I won't have Alexa or anything similar. Apart from privacy issues, I like to interact physically with things. It's probably the same reason I don't want to drive an automatic.

I can see the usefulness of being able to control the central heating remotely, or viewing a security camera, but that's it as far as I'm concerned. And I'd rather have dedicated apps for that.

I apologise if this has been done before, but I found it amusing.

I bet Apple's Homepod won't be Siri to hear that.

I had to open the curtains to find out what the weather was like. Not good enough.

It would be immodest to comment, but I can't open the curtains while in bed;)

Bit like those adverts for the shopping companies that have sprung up to 'deliver' small items you have forgotten (sorry that should be too lazy to go out and buy yourself)... what kind of ethos are we instilling in people these days.

Where's the line? Just about finished a house which is IMO well specced, but I consciously rejected home automation which is growing rapidly now- things like door locks, curtains etc which to me would be more trouble than they are worth. The money went into usefulness, things like underfloor heating and a ventilation system with heat recovery.
