 Cronyism - Lygonos

I recall my dad's biggest gripe of 1970s Labour (he was a civil servant) was cronyism and nepotism. He was no big fan of any government but didn't notice it as bad with Thatcher.

Now we have it running rampant again with peerages for mates (effectively giving them lifelong pseudo-MP status)

Latest one up here which will no doubt make Boris even more popular:

It was all stick and no carrot in the Thatcher donkey stable.

A list of the number of days taken on average to create a peer by Prime Minister:

Wilson 16
Heath 22
Wilson 9
Callaghan 19
Thatcher 20
Major 14
Blair 10
Brown 29
Cameron 9
May 25
Johnson 9

I assume that although PMs can appoint peers from both sides of the political divide, they will tend to focus on those from their own support base.

There is little to separate Wilson, Blair, Cameron and Johnson (to date) which seems to indicate that nepotism is endemic, and not associated with any one party.

Boris and Cameron topping the chart per year.

I assume the figure for Wilson in his final term includes the so called 'lavender list' on his resignation which may well have given root to Lygonos's father's perception.

Is that the number of days in office before the first life peerage was created or some more complex calculation?

It looks like (number of days as PM)/(number of life peers) so a reasonable "rate of peerages"

(lower number = higher peerage rate)

May your god (Jahbulon) forgive you.

I used that as a password in the early days of computers when one machine was used by several people. Went fishing for freemasons and it snared a few.
