As the title says, the pupster has been bitten by an adder, and I am over the moon.
What? howso? you say.
Let me explain. Went away on dog training camp to Norfolk on Sunday night. Monday went well. Woke up Tuesday to a pup with its rear leg tucked up behind it, hoping around on three legs. It looked for all the world ( to me and other experienced handlers in the group) like she had ruptured a Cranial Cruciate Ligament.
In dogs, this is serious, costly to attempt to fix ( I would have sent her to Fitzpatrick) with a 50% chance of success and long (12 weeks) recovery. If fixed it would always be suspect.
Sporting career over, we packed up with tears all round on the camp site, and drove home Tuesday to much despair and gloom.
Wednesday morning rolls round, with visit to a the practise orthopaedic specialist, but the dog now has slight extension of her leg possible.
Exam and fur shave reveals one fang wound of an adder bite in a now clearly swollen foot. Dog dispatched home with an anti histamine injection (canine adder anti venom has side effects and only really applicable for the first 6 hours post bite) and a course of the ever ubiquitous for dogs - metacam.
So there we are, an up and down week, ending up happy that the dog has "only" been bitten by a poisonous snake. Now she is back to health and leaping around.
It happened at the beach/sand dunes at Caister on monday evening.
And my pup is considerably tougher than Cleopatra!

>>Bitten by an Adder
That's Wuff!
Now where did I leave my coat?
Glad it's not too serious and hope he /she's bounding around again soon.

£2000 for my sister's mini Snoutcer = made a full recovery.

I'm pleased she recovered so quickly. I guess fangs aren't what they used to be.

Many years ago I was involved (professionally) with a Vicar who was accused by a an extreme Christian group of dabbling with the dark side. His Springer was bitten and died by an Adder...sent shivers down his and mine spine..

Well clearly my dog didn't die because I am merely agnostic, not a satanist.
I am going to rename the dog - Cleo

I think you should paws for a moment, you don't want to go bounding with wagging tail in to a decision and have it come back and bite you.

Friend's (working) springer was bitten by an adder and died. Another friend's (working) collie, likewise.
Glad to hear all's well.
