I wonder how much of a difference it would make in terms of longevity of the wood? How do the grooves increase airflow?

I can assure you, Mr Zero, that I have absolutely no idea.

It would seem that, from time to time, random posts are deleted randomly. Why that should be, I do not know.

It may be that the better airflow is needed where the decking crosses a joist.

The manufacturers of decking must have smiled every time they saw an incorrectly fitted deck - more money in the bank when it rots sooner.

Its not only decking that gets installed upside down. Natural stone paving is sometimes installed that way too.

I have a mixture of 'decking panels' the sort of thing that you can stand plant pots on - sometimes sold with wheels. (I cannot remember the correct trade name for them :) decking tiles? all about 600mmx600mm. They were all samples from Vietnam fact6ories.

They all have grooves up - plain down. So are the factories wrong? or are they just perpetuating previous buyer errors?

IN the interest of scientific enquiry I checked out the decking in Homebase today. It is grooved on both sides. One is a a wide groove and the other a narrow.
