 Zero & his dog.... - No FM2R
I can't find the original thread, not that I looked with a great deal of industry or patience...

Zero,

Is lockdown b*ggering up new$dog training schedule? Doesn't it all have to be started very young?

FiFi Mk2...... Nessa.

But its FiFi Mk1 - Evie - I feel sorry for

She was coming to her peak, qualified honed keen and due to appear at the finals at - count them - THREE levels Grades 4 5 & top grade 6 and - Pfffttttt all came to a grinding halt. She will now compete for fun, her semi retirement triumphant year decimated.

I'm lucky, seen so many pups trained, got such great remote support (and secret one on one meetings with our coach) that I have been able to get good sporting foundations in her - quickly too, she is a stunning dog at the task.

She is however, now 6 months, and the Kevin and Perry teen period is upon us, she thinks she knows better, she thinks she can pick and chose when to recall, and I apologise to all the local pensioners with muddy paw marks up their fronts, and the numerous toddlers knocked flat in the park. My only excuse is I need live targets to train with.

And there is the rub, there is 12 months of covid pups bought, none of whom have been able to go to puppy classes, or be socialised properly. There is a a lot of dog issues to come.

One GS near us that's a few issues, about 12 months old. Everytime another dog is within a country mile he legs it a fence and stands tight against it or has the dog face a random garage door etc.

Has missing that level of activity affected her behaviour or welfare?

Against that I suppose they have you present almost 100% of the time which must help them?

[100% of you wouldn't help me, I'd swing for you within a week, but I guess your presence might help the dogs].

Local radio had a tale of a family that wanted a support dog for their child. They were considering a Doberman, bought sight unseen (the breeder would choose it for them), paid for by bank transfer and delivered to a nearby layby. They would then train it themselves!

The radio show presented an expert dog trainer, who hopefully put them off. He did recount a tale of a puppy being bought in similar circumstances. It's small size being explained by leaving the bitch too soon. It wouldn't eat, so it was taken to a vet who diagnosed it as a guinea pig.

She drinks more, our gin bill has gone up. OH THE DOG

Nah, she has got fatter mind. Plus the pup has arrived, and she gets very miffed when I train with Nessa. I have learned a great deal of "behaviour" stuff. Fascinating.

Evie îs actually "with me" less during lockdown strangely. On show weekends we are never more than a yard apart for 8 hours a day, for two days. Sounds daft I know, but you really need to know how to get on and chill.
