 Perseverance rover - Crankcase
If anyone wants to see the Mars rover Perseverance attempt its landing tonight (about 8pm onwards) then NASA tv is of course covering it. I just wanted to point out that if you have Fire stick then there's a NASA app that will let you watch it your big screen, if you were unaware of it.

No doubt there's another million ways of seeing it too of course., And I appreciate not everyone will be interested! But it's a unique lander system and if it works we will also get a little video helicopter drone to get video footage of low level surface flybys.

It wont be live if course.......

I could wait 3 to 22 minutes to reply I guess...

If I was next door you wouldnt have to.

If you were I'd be shouting "conjunctive" over the fence.

Subjunctive Shirley? Or should I have stayed for the second half of the lesson?

Well, i always understood the "was/were" question to be effectively the impossible v the possible, with the labels subjunctive and conjunctive respectively. But now Google doesnt bear me out, so i may have learned something.

Do you remember Ask the Family? Sometimes Mr Thompson (teacher) or Mrs Thompson (teacher) or possibly one of the Thompson children(want to be teachers) would proffer an answer and Robert would say "Ah tish, Mr Thompson, would that it were, would that it were".

I'm not sure what grammatical form that is but I like and use it sometimes.

I do, now you mention it. Although I didn't remember the titles and the theme tune. The families on it were nothing like mine even though my mother was a teacher.

Comb-overs like that must be nearly extinct now.

Did you remember all the special effects were done by Eric? I always wondered about Eric.

My History teacher and her family were on the show.

An awful woman called Mrs. Ducker. Bet you'll never guess her nickname.

A Mr Ducker was the West Riding's Divisional Education Director for a sweep of suburban Leeds.

Same nickname amongst some school heads.

Just installed the NASA app on my phone. It says touchdown is just over 14 minutes away. And it's still travelling at 10,600 mph (and speeding up!)!!
 Perseverance rover - Manatee
Is it early then? I just read that touchdown is expected at 3.55 EST?

Ah you.re watching the simulation...

Well done chaps. Jolly good show.

Watching the Mary Rose come up was even more exiting, even tho that looked like a scaffold accident being dredged from Folkestone Docks.
 Perseverance rover - Stuartli
It was live on all the major rolling TV news channels.....
 Perseverance rover - Zero
Ok they have processed the videos

www.bbc.co.uk/news/av/science-environment-56159376

 Perseverance rover - No FM2R
That is just the coolest thing ever.

I wish I was young enough to think that visiting another planet was possible for me. A one item bucket list.
 Perseverance rover - zippy
I am looking forward to seeing the drone in action.

If it works well, they will want to try it on one of the gas giants’ moons which have thicker atmospheres.
 Perseverance rover - Manatee
Excellent. Been waiting for that.
 Perseverance rover - smokie
Amazing.

Watched the clip yesterday on my phone - it was impressive.

Watched it on the TV this morning and it is astonishing. The sky crane thing is just like a sci fi film.
 Perseverance rover - maltrap
How can mankind do something as incredible as that but not stop morons posting abuse on social media !

Don't get me started
 Perseverance rover - rocket

I am actually good friends with a Rocket Scientist. He is the UK's chief expert on space junk. We call him the astro p****** much to his amusement.
