I will be stopping the server for a few mins to move it up a notch on AWS.

Been adding more hosting onto it and although it is fine - it is still on the free tier - one processor and 1GB RAM - so not doing badly IMHO - but time to move it up...
 Server provisioning - No FM2R
I think Parler has left some free space you could use.
 Server provisioning - car4play
Definitely. And may it be a warning to you not to incite other C4P members to violence, or this server will disappear too ;-)

Hi

Site is slow this morning for me.

Each thread opens, but doesn't go to newest post,

Moving to new zone is OK, but the twirly thing takes a long time to stop.

On Firefox, with Adblock Plus turned off.

Neil

It's fine here (and has been for days now), which URL is good and which is bad?

My understanding is we are only supposed to be using www.car4play.com now.
 Server provisioning - T junction
Mine is slow as well. Think it may be something to do with the "Latest Forum Posts" on the right as this seems to be the last thing to load as the loading progress bar hits the end. Mac/Safari if any help.
 Server provisioning - MD
Quick here.
 Server provisioning - neiltoo
Just took 33 seconds to load the jokes thread.

Just took 7 seconds to load the jokes thread.

But maybe it was cached?

4 seconds. Current wifi speed on this Fire tablet is 101Mbs according to the broadband speed checker, if that's relevant.

And now I am having significant delays for the recent posts panel completes

Well, I say significant, 20 seconds or so.
 Server provisioning - Lygonos
>> And now I am having significant delays for the recent posts panel completes

Taking me about 50 seconds (Android auto phone) - rest of the screen comes up immediately.

Bug report:

Not seeing latest forum posts. The box is blank.

Odd. No issues at all with latest posts panel, appears instantly.
 Server provisioning - smokie
Likewise, no probs apparent here
 Server provisioning - zippy

To clarify, having checked, it’s fine on chrome but not on IOS Safari (iPhone XS max).
 Server provisioning - smokie
Oh OK, I didn't check on the phone - really slow delivering the side panel for me on Android

Very slow for me... if I click the red 'new' post notice it ends being quicker to scroll down myself rather than let the site do it.

 Server provisioning - Ambo
For me, email retained but not my password, which has to be entered manually. New messages not highlighted in green as formerly.

All OK here, W10 and Chrome, both auto patching.

Apart from having to page down for the latest post over the past couple of days, all is well.
 Server provisioning - VxFan

What web browser you using? I've not experienced this (yet).
 Server provisioning - Clk Sec
>> What web browser you using? I've not >>experienced this (yet).

Silk, on my Fire tablet.
 Server provisioning - Crankcase
I'm using Silk on my Fire tablet and dont see any issues, if that helps narrow things down? I can offer version numbers of stuff if required.

Also I run pi hole. A page reload here shows a call to stats.khoosys.info and then seven more calls to various google ad and analytics services. I admit those are all blocked at the moment, so go nowhere, and thus no ads are served either. Clue maybe?
 Server provisioning - Bromptonaut

Spoke too soon, it's now taking an age to load the latest posts.

Mine does too, though it does behave itself now and again.
 Server provisioning - PeterS
Loads quickly enough for me (on an iPad) with no discernible lag. The last couple of days however the blue ‘progress’ bar stops around half way, even though all the content / threads / posts appear to have loaded?

And edited to say that it posts immediately as well, though the blue bar is still just 50% complete!

Laptop, Win 10, Chrome + at best 5Mbs BB

Loads fine but replying this to 10 secs+ to load.
 Server provisioning - neiltoo
Instant on Chrome.

Still very slow on Firefox.

Strange, because Firefox was OK until I made my first comment.

I am generally finding that the delay is in dealing with requests. Once the action commences then everything happens very quickly indeed.
 Server provisioning - tyrednemotional
Win 10/Chrome tested on same m/c but in different Chrome modes.

Normal mode with Ghostery/Adblocker, etc. active the full response is quick (maybe a second).

Incognito mode, which doesn't have the above extensions active, the initial response (populating the main part of the page) is very similar, BUT, the "latest forum posts" block can then take another 15 seconds or so to populate (and is the only content that is loaded "late").

Something between the two layers (I would have guessed at adserving, but all the ads on the final page-load are populated in the first second or so, so it is not as simple as that) is taking an awful long time or inserting a long wait.
 Server provisioning - No FM2R
That "recent posts" thing is really taking a long time today.

Does anybody use it? Maybe just get rid?
 Server provisioning - zippy

I do. I don’t have time to go through every new thread.
 Server provisioning - No FM2R
How do you use it, Zippy? (In case I'm missing something)
 Server provisioning - Zero
I use it a lot, as a quick list of what's new.
 Server provisioning - zippy
>> How do you use it, Zippy? (In case I'm missing something)

Saves be going in to each sub forum and thread to see if what's there.

Hover over the titles and the text is shown in a bubble.

Doesn't work if there are loads of answers to one thread - as they swamp the box but otherwise it saves me a few minutes.
 Server provisioning - John Boy
I use it like that too, especially when I log on with my phone.
 Server provisioning - sooty123
Yes I use it, I find it handy.
 Server provisioning - Bromptonaut
>> Yes I use it, I find it handy.

Same here. Just referesh the homepage and I can see what's busy.
 Server provisioning - PeterS
I don’t use it, but everything seems to be loading quite quickly enough for me. I do still have the blue progress bar hanging half way, so presumably something somewhere is trying to load. But it’s not affecting my reading or posting so I don’t mind :)
 Server provisioning - No FM2R
Just dicking around. If I switch Ghostery on then it's as fast as it should be, including the Latest Posts box.

If I switch Ghostery off, and I usually have Car4play whitelisted, then suddenly that Latest Posts box goes deathly slow.

It's irritating so for the time being I've un-whitelisted Car4play and it's just great.

....Exactly as my post above....
 Server provisioning - No FM2R
How did you know I was using Ghostery?
 Server provisioning - Crankcase
Having seen absolutely no issues, i just tried disabling pihole. All the googly stuff is then allowed to happen, and bingo, the latest posts panel stops dead. Turn pihole on again, refresh the connection to clear the dns cache, and bingo, the latest posts thing is back to being instantaneous.

I suppose I could now trawl through the googly things one at a time to narrow it further, but it looks like one or more of those calls is the issue.

It all works fine without any googly things.
 Server provisioning - sooty123
Taking about 30 secs to skip to the new post when click on it. Same time for the latest post box to fill up.
 Server provisioning - Zero
It populates instantaneously on Safari, does not on Chrome.
 Server provisioning - Bromptonaut
>> It populates instantaneously on Safari, does not on Chrome.

Tried MS Edge; no quicker than Chrome.

If I try to log in to comment during the lag that's delayed until the page has updated fully including the latest posts window.
 Server provisioning - Zero
Edge is based on chrome browser code.
 Server provisioning - No FM2R
I use Firefox mostly.

Ghostery has made the problem go away, which is a little unfair on Stephen, but I shall keep the ads blocked for the time being.
 Server provisioning - Zero
It does seem to be something to do with google add serving. Looks like the latest drop down post box is waiting for the add above to populate.

The ads (currently MS Azure or Fitflop) populate before Latest Posts but there's a delay after ads and before Latest POsts. No difference with Ad Block on or off. Not (yet) tried Ghostery.
 Links not working - sooty123
I've tried clicking on a few of the links in the posts, a window opens for a fraction of a sec and then closes.

Copy and paste works fine.

Anyone else?

If I click refresh, all I get is a white screen with a capital A in the top LH corner.

None of the links work. The screen 'blinks' for a split second, but nothing changes.

Oh well, CBA.
 Links not working - smokie
oh! I just noticed that! They were OK earlier... I'll test it a bit more then mail Stephen

Here's a test link www.bbc.com

On the other hand the problem with pages being slow to populate has gone so perhaps work in progress.

Site is still slow in loading threads to latest post - on Firefox.
Clicking on links goes to the same routine as above.

Loads quickly on Chrome.
Clicking on links does nothing but reloading same page.
