A solicitor has been fined £30,000 plus costs following a guilty finding on multiple charges of misconduct including:

* Wearing a KKK mask while speaking to a black colleague
* Repeatedly touching a colleagues bottom
* Touching another colleagues bottom in what he alleges was a playful kick
* A tasteless joke with the punchline 'tycoon'

That would have been out of place 40 years ago.

In an all white office and years ago I might have done too. In fact I could imagine such a jape in the office I worked in from 1979 to 84.

I also think he and the employee (Person A) and he had previous issues over her work etc. It will be several weeks before the full decision is available to examine the detail.

It's pretty clear that the regulator is coming down hard on personal misconduct. There have been two high profile cases recently in big London firms where action has been taken over complaints of unreciprocated sexual advances towards junior employees by senior partners.

If nothing else, he needs to be fired for being quite incredibly thick.

For the record, I wouldn't have laughed 40 year ago either. Given the different behaviours in those days it is more likely that he'd have got a slap.

He is clearly a deeply unpleasant person.
