Nope, very useful as an engineering standards body, and a good notified body if you are involved in the medical device industry.

It's a shame it's not really "British" anymore. The codes started becoming euro-ised from the early 1970's. First Codes of Practice became British Standards and now they're becoming Euro this and Euro that. IMHO it should be called ESI now.

Dulwich, speaking from a company perspective, it's not a shame at all. If we had to adhere to 20 different standards to sell internationally it would be a nightmare.

I understand, and indeed in some ways share, your feeling that it's a shame that the UK doesn't have a larger international standing, but the ISO standards are often very largely based on the older UK standards so it's not all bad.

Anyway, from my personal experience, BSI do an excellent job of supporting and assisting British companies, and fully deserve to continue to carry their name.
