 Trump on Musk - CGNorwich

KERNEN for CNN:

Tesla's now worth more than GM and Ford. Do you have comments on Elon Musk?
TRUMP:

Well -- you have to give him credit. I spoke to him very recently, and he's also doing the rockets. He likes rockets. And -- he does good at rockets too, by the way. I never saw where the engines come down with no wings, no anything, and they're landing. I said I've never seen that before. And I was worried about him, because he's one of our great geniuses, and we have to protect our genius. You know, we have to protect Thomas Edison and we have to protect all of these people that -- came up with originally the light bulb and -- the wheel and all of these things. And he's one of our very smart people and we want to-- we want to cherish those people.

AAAAAGH!

Musk is a South African who got a Canadian Passport by virtue of his Mother and then a US passport by virtue of being a Canadian studying in the US.

What was it Trump that thinks about immigrants again?

Why can't I buy a radio or TV where I can block any reference to Donald Trump? The TV would seamlessly go from one news item to another without mention of Trump.

Why not? We can do everything else - why can't we do that.

I would, of course include Greta Thunberg in the blocking. I don't want to see or hear from her again.

Happy to read posts about him though?

I wouldn't worry too much about her. She's starting to sound foolish even to the most blinkered so will be dropping out of the public eye fairly soon I imagine.
 Trump on Musk - CGNorwich
if sounding foolish was an obstacle to succeeding in public life how do you explain the persistance of Trumpand his ilk?
 Trump on Musk - Kevin
I loved the photo of Prince Charles and Greta Thunberg in Davos with the caption "Royal granted audience with Thunberg".

>>how do you explain the persistance of Trump and his ilk?

Because it depends to whom they sound foolish. There's no logic to it. Well, certainly no intelligence. I guess at the point you tell a mindless follower it would be better if they changed their own lives then it goes wrong.
 Trump on Musk - CGNorwich
So to whom does Greta Thunberg appear foolish? A little earnest perhaps but she comes across to me at least as highly intelligent and passionate in her view which are based on widely accepted science based data.

Then I am sure there will be no issue at all and she will continue as she is. You do.

I'm convinced in years to come it will come out that he's mental ill, got dementia etc.

Has anyone on here ever heard anyone speak in such a bizarre manner?
 Trump on Musk - CGNorwich
I suspect most close to him share your views but there is too much at stake to publicly admit that he is not fit to be president. As long as he can largely be kept away from doing too much damage they will continue to shield him.

He just has a personality defect and is intellectually stupid, no medical reasons involved. He has a degree of animal cunning which often goes with stupidity, its a coping mechanism.

Whatever the reason it says something for the overall level of education and judgement of the American voters that his approval level remains rock solid at 42%. How on earth can someone listen to him and still think that this is the man to lead them?

I'd say from what I've read and seen half of those will be fans the other half only support because they dislike the alternatives (the Democrats ) even more than him.

A few words embody the Trump persona - egotistical, bullying, insecure, lying, narcissistic, intellectually average, possible early stage dementia, superficial, etc etc. I would not want to be lead by him out of a paper bag - if he could find the way!

BUT

Not everyone in the US is intellectually able, rational, analytical, with sound jobs, security, homes, cars - these people dominate the east and west coast.

Much of central US belt is home to failed and failing agriculture, steel, coal, car industries etc with low per capita incomes and high unemployment. They feel forgotten and ignored by politicians over the last 3 decades. No wonder they vote for Trump - idiot though he is - as he seems at least to care (for now, in election year).

A little like the UK where for 3 decades the memory of Thatcherism guaranteed a socialist majority in the coal mining, manufacturing and steel industries. It is only the election a month ago where they began to realise the promises being made by politicians were empty and unaffordable

America is not full of College educated well rewarded original thinking fair minded balanced professional people.

There are 156 million like that, and being so many they will be noticed, globally, as a shining beacon of prosperity, progress, success and innovation

However, there are 147 million who have not progressed beyond the cowboy generation, poorly educated, white, ignored, an underclass compared to the others.

They voted for someone like them.
 Trump on Musk - CGNorwich
Yes I get all of that but I still find it startling. I guess I have always believed in the wisdom of the majority, the inherent common sense of most people and their ability to spot a charlatan. After all that is the underlying belief behind democracy. Clearly I am wrong.
 Trump on Musk - Zero
they didn't vote, assumed he wouldn't get in, didn't think it mattered...........

And of course the other choice was Hilary Clinton, not liked by Americans at all.

Well, what to believe? It is of course all fake news.

In 2017, Trump made 1,999 false or misleading claims. In 2018, he added 5,689 more, for a total of 7,688. And in 2019, he made 8,155 suspect claims.

As of Jan. 19, ( 2020) his 1,095th day in office, Trump had made 16,241 false or misleading claims. Only 366 days to go — at least in this term.

......his border wall is being built. Congress balked at funding the concrete barrier he envisioned, so he has tried to pitch bollard fencing and mostly repairs of existing barriers as “a wall.” (Almost all of the 100 miles that have been completed replaced previous barriers.) The Washington Post has reported that the bollard fencing is easily breached, with smugglers sawing through it, despite Trump’s claims that it is impossible to get past.

It's not just mouth-breathing yokels voting for Trump.

A fair percentage of wealthy Americans hold their noses and vote for him rather than Democrat because the thought of paying more tax for public services is anathema.

Including the much berated (by Trump) Hispanics as I found out ob a cruise.

Strangely enough, I go on cruises full of Brits, you wont believe this but they behave so much better ashore than the Florida based cruise passengers.

I'll be down Marks way next month (well almost) Columbia, Panama and Costa Rica - hopefully avoid the yanks
