Brother MFC-J6530DW set to colour copy. First try blank paper came out. Second try it printed the first inch it had scanned of a £20 note. I know I have done copied notes successfully before on other printers so this was a surprise. Reply to this message | Report message

By the letter of the law it is an offence to copy money. Obviously producing counterfeit money is illegal but also a simple photocopy is. B of E own the copyright. Reply to this message | Report message

When photocopiers were first introduced to the office ('70s?) some wag tried copying pound notes. The results were frighteningly convincing, even though they were only B&W. They could easily have been accepted in poor light. Reply to this message | Report message

Like manatee, my printer did about and inch of the note, and the rest of the page was blank, as were subsequent copies. In high res it refused to even pass pass paper through the path. I have just tried it with a £10 and a £5. It worked fine. (This is the printer Zero told me not to buy!) All the detail is there. Mine is also on an ink plan, so reports back from time to time, so its also possible that I could be remotely grassed up - highly unlikely tho. Reply to this message | Report message

You may remember from old detective films that the cops were able to tell what typewriter was used by a crook. The now do the same with laser printers (and probably inkjets too). They deposit a series of dots on the page that records the serial number of the printer.
