Like pretty much everybody of my generation I remember the Morecambe and Wise appearance and Previn's time as conductor of London Symphony Orchestra. I don't recall hearing of him as a composer until yesterday's obituaries.

Bit before my time, I'd not heard of him before I saw his name on the news.

Conductor , composer and pianist , he was an excellent communicator and really revived the fortunes of the LSO after he became their conductor.Some classical types did not like him because he started off composing in film music and jazz.
He was married at one time to Mia Farrow and lived only a couple of miles from me when I lived in Reigate .
He always said that he was never recognised in the village pub until his Morecambe and Wise appearance and he delighted in the fact that all the London cabbies called him Mr Preview.
