Have never watched this. Ever.

High ratings maybe a sign of nothing else worthwhile on TV?

Can't say I watch it as an adult. I do remember watching it every year growing up, we'd watch it with grandparents around at our house. It was on without fail and woe betide anyone who spoke while it was on.

I watch it about half the time. I rather like the actual speech and the tradition.

"Blah blah blah" while sat in front of a gold piano et al.

About as much fun as the Popester's speech.

I’ve not watched it since I was a pre teen and forced to do so with the family, aunts, uncles, grandparents et al gathered en masse after the obligatory 12 o’clock Christmas meal.
The only TV I’ve watched the entire Christmas period was watching the film BFG with my old mum last night. Which strangely enough had a Queen in the script.
I’m no royalist but that’s a different conversation entirely

In the last 40 years the Royal Family have proven to be poor examples of morality, so spouting stuff at the rest of us lacks any validity.

The queens speech should be canned.

I don't see your logic there. Who's perfect? Actually, Queenie is probably as valid as you'll get on your criterion although Charlie might need to repent a bit.

I'll watch the one where Charlie repents, that should be interesting.

"The queens speech should be canned."

Indeed! We could replace it with with the spoutings of President Prescott or President Blair or ......

Nothing. Replacement is not required.

It finished it for me when she shook the hand of one Martin McGuiness.

Platitudes inevitably but I like to hear what the Queen has to say.

She's probably too unfashionable now when having an opinion seems only to be valid when expressing a violent disagreement with somebody or something.
