Very quiet in "The OtherPlace" - Perky Penguin
No posts at all for 6 days in the non-motoring section. Has everyone come over here? It looks like it, we are enjoying informed, wide ranging and lively discussion.
Very quiet in "The OtherPlace" - BobbyG
Don't use it anymore, even to "nosey"

Out of all the websites I go on, on either work or home PC, it is still the only one that causes annoying pop-ups on screen.

Very quiet in "The OtherPlace" - RattleandSmoke
I posted on there last week, then got a flood of popups so gave up. HJ killed the forum. This has all been discussed before though.
Very quiet in "The OtherPlace" - Stuu
While its all been discussed before, its nice to check in and see if we were right in the first place.
Its nice being right really.
Very quiet in "The OtherPlace" - Ted

I really have no comment aboout HJ, not visited for a long time.
I'm impressed by the fact that C4P seems to have become a club for a load of different, friendly, chums who all seem to get on with the others and are not shy about posting a little risque topic now and again.

I'd like to see a few more first names, now we're all mates. personalise it a bit more. No harm in that, I think.

Come on. who's coming out first ?

I posted on HJ under my real name for a while. Stopped when scope for professional embarrassment commenting on issues around the justice system became clear.

"C4P seems to have become a club"

Exactly. The Backroom was a pub, and members of the public kept on walking in. If they didn't behave, the regulars glared at them. Some even became regulars. But this place is a club. We don't have a regular flow of members of the public popping in.

How many of the regulars here didn't frequent the Backroom before February? Two? One? Fewer?
Very quiet in "The OtherPlace" - Robin O'Reliant
MoT backwards.

I only look at HJ now when it is mentioned here, otherwise never. I don't even recognise most of the names there now.

I was pondering on the lack of new faces only recently. One thought occured to me of "inviting" people I know who I think might be interested to have a look at the site to see if they would enjoy it and possibly join in. Trouble with that one is that some of us enjoy using the cloak of relative anonymity on here to vent our feelings about our "real" lives and events therein ! It would be more difficult to speak so freely if one knew there were others present who might use such information in ways we would prefer that they did not.

Secondly, I find the use of internet chat has extended my social circle and while I know some of my friends from other activities or parts of my life probably would enjoy this, in a way I see it as a slightly dangerous thing to have too many with an offstage potentially private agenda.

Having said that, there may well be people on here that I "know" through the forum and "know" elsewhere but have not yet connected the two identities.
Very quiet in "The OtherPlace" - R.P.
I'm not privvy to the long term plans - but I was going to suggest that regulars place some invites with people they know via FB etc..

Are you suggesting that the bloke who flips your burgers at Watford Gap might well be Zero?
Very quiet in "The OtherPlace" - Stuu
Isnt there a facebook page for this site? If not, there should be.
Very quiet in "The OtherPlace" - BiggerBadderDave
I'm spending too much time on here.

I'm in the middle of a project that I detest and consequently keep flicking over to C4P. I was the same at school. I never did any revision, I just constructed more and more elaborately designed revision charts.

Good job I'm very very very bright.

Both my neighbors are connected to the motor trade in one way or another so that could indeed be a remote possibility and although I have nothing to hide, the bra and panties episode could easily be misconstrued :}

My name is Ian and well its obvious who I am from HJ.

I'm David and as you know I moderate on HJ. C4P has become a club - and a delightful one too. The HJ forum hasn't in any way been killed by HJ - just settled down as a place where people can come and consult about cars and motoring - which is what HJ intended it to be. It's very good that we have both and I'm happy to belong to both: vive la difference.

A thick skin is an advantage - I'm proud of mine - but sadly Oilrag, a sensitive soul, has been upset by people on both forums and has retired hurt from both.

We'll keep the general discussion section open on HJ for occasional comments and questions, but this forum is clearly the place for it, as HJ is for technical queries.

Whatever happens, let's co-exist and not knock each other's forums.

Fair enough Avant.
And bye the way, I am no longer a lad nor do I drive a Subaru!
The future Mrs L hates all Subarus, especially the looks of the Spec B Tourer which is still on my wish list.

Dave, obviously... Not a Taxi Driver any more, although I've just started back as a (part time for now) Truck Driver. Got Brum and West Mids tomorrow after taking the nipper to school.

Well, I'm Pat:)

Totally agree with everything Avant says above and I do have some misgivings about inviting people I know on here.

This is partt of MY secret life, even Ian ( Mr pda) doesn't look at these forums and as I have a duty to moderate, contribute and do admin on the PDA forums it's so nice to come on here and it not be classed as work.

I like to see the christian names too, and it makes it feel like home!

>> A thick skin is an advantage - I'm proud of mine - but sadly Oilrag, a sensitive soul, has been upset by people on both forums and has retired hurt from both.

I can't claim a thick skin, but I can't say I am devastated by rudeness (or very occasionally justified criticism or reproof) from people I don't know personally. I feel that having had to go to boarding school at an early age makes people more stoical about such matters. Boys' schools are good for developing a robust form of po-faced but insulting badinage which goes well here. Zero and BBD do a good double act with it, although of course they may both have been at girls' approved schools before they found their true level in Borstal.

My father constantly warned me that I would end up in Borstal. But I wasn't bright enough to pass the entrance exams.

That, and I'm no fan of prose no one can understand.

Well I'm Gord. Given my sorry history with Honda, reported on here and on HJ, anyone that knows me could work out who I am from my posts anyway.

Maybe some of you know this already from mods emails but I'm Geoff

But smokie it is on this forum, HJ and one other.

I've actually met the guys on the other forum many many times now, and I answer to the name smokie in real life....

However I will answer to Crocks from them all.

So, no Tarquins, Peregrines or Marmadukes out there.

Well, you've probably guessed my name by now. I'm Ted to SWMBO and various others.

I do wonder what happened to 'the other side'.

I joint up on the other side just before the other forum was changed and I must say its now worse for it.

After a couple of weeks I was informed of this excellent site and joint up.
I am glad I did.
Its nice that everyone is here and the past advice from you all has been excellent and saved me money.

As for the popup's, I never had a problem but I do have ad block installed in my firefox web browser.

Im Stephen

Live in the North East just outside my “birth” county of North Yorkshire

I occasionally have a look at the other place, but only because the technical section seems to be more active and I like to have a read through – but all the pop ups, and the flash adds slow done my PC so I don’t go on it very much.

I like this place more, and I want to say thanks to all who have me made me feel welcome. If in some of my posts I have come across rude then im truly sorry I never meant to upset anyone.

I like to contribute when I can but feel a little guilty as I don’t start new topics as much as other members its only because I never can think of something interesting quick enough

I see one of our old friends from the Br that came here briefly, (and was renowned for his "creative" style of writing), has, since his exile, made a brief return there (under a new Nome de plume) to let folk know that he has started his own "blog".
