 Checking Tax Paid - Ambo
I earlier made a payment to HMRC via bank transfer. My bank confirmed the money had been paid. But how can I check online with HMRC that it has been received? None of its services, including via Govt. Gateway, seems to cater for this. I don't want to phone as I can't hear much and outfits like this take ages to answer.

How long ago was the payment made?

If the payment had not gone through you would have heard within weeks of the due date as they would be chasing you for the money.

Govt Gateway is used to access HMRC - you need to be registered, given access codes etc etc - not difficult but it takes quite a time - post delays.

About 2 hours. It was not due until January 31st. but I wanted it out of the way. The access route via Govt. Gateway does not show current payments.

Govt Gateway will not see payments in for at least a day or 2.

Your payment will have got to HMRC but will not be allocated to your acct.

My own experience when 'phoning HMRC is really good. I can't ever remember having to wait more than a few minutes for a response.

My experience is that it usually takes weeks or even over a month for a tax payment to register in Govt. gateway. When I've phoned to query why my account is still showing a payment due, I'm told that's normal. They can look it up and confirm receipt on the phone, but don't apparently bother to update the bit we see.

Look up the phone service closing hours and then phone them with your query 10 minutes before they go home. I do this this and never seem to wait long at all.

I am registered and there are at least a dozen ways into HMRC online. I tried all of them, some with several attempts, without finding this information. Their telephone service kept me long on hold, without connecting me to an operator.

I asked my accountant if he could find the information, which he did in a few minutes. Could I access the service he was using direct? No, I couldn't. Anyway, HMRC confirmed to him that the funds have been received. He emailed me with copies of the Revenue's acknowledgements.
