I need to buy some dowelling. Probably 20 lengths of 5' x 8mm.
Where can I go that isn't B&Q at £2.48 per 8' length?

Focus, Wickes, Jewson, any timber merchant in your local www.yell.com for a few ideas.

If you can, wait until you go back to France. Amazingly, although prices of near enough everything are dearer I've found that wooden mouldings are cheaper than UK in the DIY sheds of France.
|
Thanks for suggestions, but:
CGN: 1 metre is shorter than 5'.
RTJ: Screwfix - 1m lengths, that was my first place
DE: last time I went to France, was Paris by Eurostar... not sure when the next time will be!

My local timber merchant, Champion, charges £1.41 for an 8' length of 9mm pine or £1.72 in hardwood. If I remember correctly they are 'Richard Burbidge' brand which is available widely.

wow I cant think, why on earth you need dowling in 5' lenghts?
|
I too am intrigued about using dowelling that is 5 feet long. I thought Mapmaker was going to cut it down to smaller lengths to use it as dowelling.

OK -I'll start the bidding:

NAh, at 5 feet in length, 8mm dowling has insufficient strength.
Scale model of a Log cabin, or a Viking long boat.

Garden bench for his gnomes.

Why does cutting up dowelling that is 5' long turn it into dowelling??! :)

So what are you using it for, if not for dowelling?
|
>> My guess is stair rods.
WOW, they are wide palatial stairs.

I think you know what I meant. Dowelling is usually used to stick in bits of furniture in holes to join two bits together. Often used in build it yourself furniture to align things whilst the fittings are tightened etc.
If you need 5' of dowelling then you're obviously not using it for what I thought it was normally used for.

MM isn't shy in letting us know he's careful with money. My second guess is they're for imitation steel security bars over the windows of a basement flat in dodgy South London. Don't forget to lather on the gloss paint with a few thick runs to make 'em look really old, MM.

They are for fabric blinds. DE, you made me laugh rather loudly in the office!
|
You need Roman blind rods - a quick google will reveal a number of suppliers
