Found a coin in the garage, seems to be the same size as a 1/2 Crown. Same colour and weight. dated 1887. Has a design similar to that on a Sovereign...any ideas ?

Why do you think it is not a half crown?

Same design as this on the back. No mention on it of it's face-value

Bingo so to speak. No clue where it's come from. The garage is newly built (well 2010) and it's not familiar as a chattel of mine or Mrs RP !

How curious.

Was it out in the open? Under something that you put there? Under something that was already there?

Inquiring minds, and nosy gits, want to know.

In a box full of other things that moved here with us. Not mis-filed so to speak (with other coins and miscellaneous items) in a box, just odd that neither of us knows where it came from - certainly not from our merged households.

Oh that would drive me nuts. I'd have to go full Sherlock Holmes on that one.

"The garage is newly built (well 2010)"

You say that the garage is newly built, but what about the house itself? Just thinking that the coin could have been dropped by a passing ghost.
