Afternoon folks! - Just recently our Humax freesat box has started to take ages to boot, this morning it took just short of 30 mins. Is there some way of cleaning defragging it or something?
Thanks.

It was 6month old (I believe) when we got it. - about 2 years ago.

Do you manually turn it off on the remote at the end of an evening's viewing, or do you just let the box shut itself down?
If you turn it off on the remote, it won't have to boot itself up when you turn on again.

And about every 18 months or so of never doing a reboot, it slows down incredibly and you need to do a factory reset.

If you do a factory reset, don't you lose all your recordings?
|
I always turn both TV and box off at the socket every night, when turned on again it usually booted within 30 secs, after the reset it now boots in about 15. If you have saved any settings you do lose them, but we have never set anything on it ;-) so we had nothing to lose.

No.

We aren't posh enough to have one that records! - we still use our VHS for that! ;-)

Yes, you do lose your recordings on re-set. At least, I did. I got this work-around from Humax:
Please find the instructions below to reset your box.
Following these instructions will reset some system settings including your Recording Schedule (Please replace when complete to ensure you still record favourite programmes)
Any previous recorded programmes will be saved.
Press Menu
Scroll to Setup and press OK
Scroll to Factory Reset and press OK
It will ask you if you are sure, highlight Yes and press OK
Enter your password (Default is 0000)
The box will restart
Please follow the on screen instructions to set the box up again
Best Regards,
Michael

I've a Humax PVR and an annoying 'feature' of it is you have to re-programme all the recording settings every time you do a re-tune. Twice so far this year!
