Corbyn, class and the BBC - Ambo
Jeremy wants the BBC to adjust its employment policy to get a more equal distribution of social classes. Various criteria have been mentioned including school type, parents' education and their occupation.

Sounds like a move to Stalinist control, since the Corporation is a powerful attitude shaper but what class do you belong to and what are your criteria? I was a white collar worker i.e working chiefly with my head and, ipso facto, middle class.

Is that the definition of Middle Class? Seems simple but I didn't know.

more than adequately describes the activity of Jeff Astle (and some of his friends). Are they middle class?

The use of latin however...….

If class is inherited, as Corbyn appears to be saying, then it's what your father did that counts, not what you do.
It's always been one of the interesting features of British life, this distinction between class and income, but curious for a socialist to apparently be subscribing to the custom.

The following links refer to official classifications but business (especially for marketing segmentation purposes) tends to use its own rough-and-ready 6-grade system, 3 middle class/white-collar and 3 working class/blue-collar. To allow for the fact that incomes blur the simple class division the term socio-economic is used. This is the system I had in mind but there are various official classification systems with other definitions. For background see here:

Or here:

There are of course numerous holes to be picked in any such classification.

Class is very important to JC, without it there would be no class struggle, No class struggle= no Corbyn ideoligy.

If there was no upper class he would have to invent one

This must be the biggest understatement referring to either model.

To explain this very British concept to any intending immigrant seeking GB nationality perhaps the following should be made as compulsory viewing.

J.C.'s class isn't from traditional working class stock. Why's he worrying about this now whilst we're engulfed in the Brexit firestorm and his party is engulfed in its own troubles.

He made a speech (The Alternative Taggart Lecture) at the Edinburgh Festival. As might be expected it was on an arts/media theme and he took opportunity to float some policy ideas.

I don't think his point on class is about socio-economic groups so much as a dig at the real or perceived Public School/Oxbridge establishment's representation in the Corporation's upper echelons.

Perhaps he really wants to know if anyone of Hebrew heritage to work in showbiz anymore!?

I think he is mealy mouthed and personally can't stand the man and my politics are left of centre.
