No place for a respectable pig I believe, leastways after dark.

Indeed. When I first moved here it was a quiet and elegant street.
It brought this song to mind.
It was a year ago, September
a day I well remember
I was walking up and down
in drunken pride
when my knees began to flutter
and I fell down in the gutter
and a pig came by and lay down by my side
As I lay there in the gutter
thinking thoughts I could not utter
I thought I heard a passing lady say,
"You can tell a man who boozes
by the company he chooses..."
And with that, the pig got up and walked away

It wouldn't happen in Suffolk.

It would have been a sheep instead?
|
The town where I went to school always had an animal (usually a pig or sheep) tied up in the market square all day every Thursday. An ancient by-law stipulated that the pubs could be open on market day for as long as there was livestock to be sold.

Point of geography ....... Suffolk isn't in Wales.

It seems curious in a market down that it is an offence to have livestock in the street - or are pigs different - officially wild animals perhaps?

We have Suffolks in the field below us. Handsome little beasts ! ;-).....guess how much the owner sold a ram for a few years ago...
