Perky Penguin has suggested that as there seem to be quite a number of us in the Thames Valley, maybe we should have a get-together one evening, or lunchtime.
I live in Wokingham and my local (The Three Frogs) is quite large, easy to find and (often!) empty - probably due to the prices they charge!! But I would be happy to travel. PP is in this general vicinity some weekends so this end of the area would seem sensible, but anywhere between the M4 and the S coast would be OK.
So, just putting feelers out, how many would be interested? The end of Sept would be about the earliest that we could probably do it, and I'd think a Friday or Sunday evening, or maybe Sat or Sunday lunchtime would be best (i.e. avoiding Sat night). Partners would be welcome.
So, anyone interested please add to this thread with your approx location. We can move onto dates and venues once we get an idea of numbers...
If you'd prefer not to disclose your location just email me - smokie_mod AT car4play.com

I shall be in the area 1/2/3 Oct, evening or lunchtime suits me on any of those days

Do you really think they'd be interested, or is it a case of 'let's meet the partners of those weirdos they spend all their time with on an internet forum'?

Sorry, cheap shot (even by my standards).

Never come across him/her BB. Tab Benoit is my latest favourite find...

Pencil me in. Shouldn't be too far a jaunt from Oxfordshire.
|
I live near Reading and would be happy to come along: I'd be a bit late on Friday or Sunday evenings as I'm a church organist (at Sonning).
3 Frogs (Renault, Citroen, Peugeot?) is a good idea as it's only a minute from the A329M.

I know I'm on here less than many of the rest of you, but I live in Camberley and I'd be up for it if I'm around (travelling for work quite a bit at the moment)
|
I could probably manage the Friday - the other days probably not.
(I'm in Hemel Hempstead, BTW.)

Judge a man by the cut of his jib, not by his postcode.
Typical of the property price obsessed 'price of everything, value of nothing' south east of England.
The north's great, particularly this time of year, 'cos the outside lav rarely freezes.
Neighbours of mine have gone posh - they've put a roof on theirs.

That was meant as a joke.. as it happens I have a HP (Hemel sorting office) postcode.... SL codes are hated by the Windsor folks, so I spose that would be worse! ;-)

Which was how I took it.
As regards postcode snobbery, I don't think anyone can beat (some of) those who live in central London.
|
you havent met those in Cobham or Esher then. The london postcodes snobs are merely cobhamite trainees.

Elmbridge (Borough) is the best place to live. The photo in the link is of my village green.

Of course I agree but I note the jewelers in Esher gave up after being raided more than once in quick time but all in all I am staying put :-))

That's only because the Windsor folks are miffed they couldn't squeeze in to Buckinghamshire. SL codes do vary the number is also important.

Or soft depending on which part of the North you're from.
Can't say I've ever been involved in social conversation where my postcode has been required. Strange !

A dinner party among the chattering classes is where you need to be.
Several likely locations have already been mentioned in this thread.

I'm surprised they can remember anything. Out of their boxes on plonk and Columbian marching powder if that 20 mins. I spent in the mental asylum that is the Daily Mail is to be believed.

You all speak with the same accent, so why not?
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Estuary_English
|
Ewww, thats a working class accent.
I can speak in the Estury tongue, and do a fine glottal stop as i should. being a native cockney speaker from whence the glottal stop was stolen.
|
>> native cockney speaker from whence the glottal stop was stolen.
Arabs do pre''y good glo''al stops Zero. Of course the other Cockney characteristic is obese, distorted vowels, without the sort of Aussie sound that tends to creep in with Estuary.

I'm not the least miffed by the Hemel Hempstead comments. I live here, but hold no brief for the place. When I moved here I was separating from my then wife and took the line that you get more house for your money than in neighbouring St Albans, which is where I moved from.
There's not a lot to like about HH, in my view, but, as one wag put it, "The best thing about Hemel Hempstead is that it's not Stevenage."
