Having a clear out. Stuff is being put aside for the tip.

Found one of these in the spare room. Had it years and years, and forgot about it.

Link is to ebay, where you can see these things still fetch a few pounds. Yes, ours even has the N word printed on it.

Would you chuck it, cos times have changed and this is a Bad Thing, or sell it, cos who wants to throw away £20 or more?

I think I know the answer, but always interested to canvass views.

it's a souvenir of its age. Provided it's treated that way then no issue.

A very informed reply BP. Well put. Chapeau.

I'd chuck it, not because of what it is or represents but I simply HATE selling on eBay!!

I’ve done ok to be fair.

It is history, another age, I don't do this "sons pay for the sins of the father" shiesse, so sell it.

They are heavy tho, and I couldn't do with all the packing, wrapping and shipping agro for 20 quid

Likewise I'd flog it, not because of any historical issue buecause it's not my thing and tbh looks ugly.

Hideous. Chuck it away or use it as a weight when e.g. applying pressure for gluing or shaping your pâté de foie.

It's fugly and has no prospect of becoming un-fugly or valuable.

I'd bin it or maybe give it to a charity shop for a laugh.

I can't imagine anyone actually wanting it.

I would junk it because it's always been a bad thing and we just didn't think it through for a long time.

And it's only £20.

Not sure how my integrity would hold up if it was £20,000.

Well, went to the tip this morning.

They make a big play about:

Recycling paint
Recycling electricals
Recycling plastics
Recycling metals

We had all of those. All were met with "just chuck it in the skip mate".

Anyway, our little friend is now in a charity bag. Not sure if they will welcome it, but at least they can sell it online if they want I guess.

Thanks for replies.

That seems to be the 3rd exit from the moral maze, which you did not suggest:

1) scrap it because it is immoral,
2) take the money,
and now
3) give the dilema to someone else :)

That's because a third party who shall not be named made the decision to cut through the maze hedge with some loppers. And I know better than to argue.

Some old biddy volunteer will put it out for sale.
some young hipster will see it and photograph it and upload to social media
there will be a huge outcry, huge negative publicity for the charity, grovelling apology and the old biddy won't know what she has done wrong.

and very few people will actually ask what pillock handed that into a charity shop. :)
