Anybody tried that "Tailored" dog food from Tails.com? - any recommendations as to :
a) is it value for money
b)is it any better than the kibble type blends available in any supermarket
c) etc etc!!
I`ve just signed up for the 2 week free trial, first dog entered gets almost 5kg of bespoke recipe plus a free measured scoop, second dog gets the scoop and 3kg, third dog also gets scoop and 2kg, because of adding the extra hounds it costs £9.50.
I don't think we will be continuing the order after the free trial, because it is just over £50 a month, (unless we really see some difference in the fortnight) a normal bag of grub (15-20kg) lasts all three almost 3 weeks, and costs between £8-10.

Hi yes I have my two dogs on Tails. Using it for about a year or so and would recommend. I have a 12 year old lab and an 11 year old Westie cross. Not the cheapest food but I would not feed them cheap stuff anyway and certainly not as expensive as some of the stuff you can get.
The lab has a touch of arthritis so they add I think omega 3 and the westie has skin issues and both dogs seem to be doing well on this food.
I also like the measuring cups they provide so you feed them the correct amount.

In my opinion

no

No No.
My Old Lab, who I got at 2 after she had been run over and ended up with a wrecked spine, and a rebuilt leg, lived happily for another 13 years on cheap dog food.
My current dog, a sporting competitive working dog remember, is fed on Autarky kibble a good balanced dog food for 13 quid a 15 kilo bag at Costco. She gets a daily crunchy pigs ear (also at Costco) for teeth cleaning. Its very fit and gets fed just enough to keep it at 20-21 kilos, I am anal about weight on dogs, and weigh her weekly. Excess weight is the killer, not dog food.
I'll have no truck with fancy dog foods or trendy dog diets.

Completely agree. I get complemented frequently on our working cocker's glossy, shiny coat, and am always being asked what I feed him. When I reply "Chappie or Pedigree", people often respond with a disapproving "oh..." like I've answered the question with "His own poo".
He's 15kg on the nose, and as fast at the end of a 5 mile run as he is at the beginning. He does eat other stuff occasionally as a treat (tinned fish once a week as a supplement), but it is only occasionally.
Our Collie-x is 16 and still active, has only ever eaten standard dog food.
The whole raw feeding / bespoke dog food thing is just the latest fad, IMO. I don't believe there is any peer reviewed independent study that proves that good quality tinned dog food or kibble has any measurable detrimental impact on a dog's health or longevity, or in turn that alternative foods have a measurable positive impact.

Ours has Chudleys classic dried dog food since he was a puppy. I think it's about 17 quid for 15kg.
Perhaps some dogs need fancy diets, but not many.

Both of ours (Beagle and chocolate Lab) are partial to dining on their own poo. Both at the correct weight, in fact the vet compliments the Lab on being one of the few that aren't overweight, which she was by a long way when we got her. Like Zero, we hate to see overweight dogs.

Thanks for the opinions chaps - I thought it a bit dear for the follow up orders, our hounds (Staffy x Labrador ) weigh in at 36,27,15 kg, and are fit and healthy on the ordinary stuff (Arkwrights or Wag ) so I can't really see this stuff making much difference! - the lab /Staffy mix means that they are not fussy eaters and would love to be gluttons preferring quantity over quality! (if they get the chance).

Lead On, Eden dry food is what we get both dogs get through around a bag a month @£55.00 - the older dog is set in his ways (as he's always been) and finikity about his food - so we add some cheap wet food to encourage him. He's odd. He won't eat new food even when we open a new bag. Always been the same - before the Springer came he used to just graze his food as and when (not good when you have a second dog). Springer eats anything as quick as he can.

Our lab was given James Wellbeloved dry food from puppy through to his early passing.
Would eat the turkey or lamb one but we quickly discovered he wouldnt touch the duck variety!

I’m a great believer that some of the really cheap stuff gives the dog little benefit. Dr. John’s Gold is one that springs to mind. Complete Shi.
