Shuttleworth July Evening Air Show - Manatee
Anybody going to this? I know there are at least 3 other contributors within throwing distance of Old Warden.. Lovely place on a summer's evening, always subject to weather of course.

14 July (Saturday). Tickets £18, free parking.

It can be an excellent experience, although I think the Sunday airshows are expensive at £30 entry.
The last three airshows have had excellent weather (Saturday looks promising) that culminated in the Edwardian (well some could be called Elizabethan as they were made for the film Those Magnificent Men In Their Flying Machines) aircraft flying at the end of each show.

I like Old Warden, we sometimes pause there on our trips to Cambridge. Last time we went there was no event on but they half-emptied Hangar 2 to run up the engines prior to the pre-season training flights later in the week. They had the Spitfire, the Sea Hurricane and the Gloster Gladiator out among others.

The only thing that can spoil it is the weather, they won't fly the sticks and strings ones if it's a bit blowy and it probably doesn't take much to stop the flying altogether, most of their aircraft are pre-war.

Not sure of engagements even that soon ahead but added it to my diary.

Thanks for the information, Manatee; I could fancy that though, in mid-July, my social arrangements will be dictated by my SiL visiting from Australia.

I visited Old Warden last autumn - a former work colleague is a volunteer there; he's a biking enthusiast and currently helping restore a Scott. By the time that we'd seen what he was up to and we'd had a bite of lunch, there wasn't enough daylight left to make it worthwhile looking at the collection. We vowed to go again during the (this) summer.

Actually, the main purpose of the journey was to see the Airlander which, at that time, was out of the hangar at Cardington. I'm pleased that we made the effort as about a fortnight later it crashed again and was badly damaged.

Wouldn't be someone called Richard by any chance?

"Wouldn't be someone called Richard by any chance?"

It would be disrespectful of me to mention his name on a public forum, but I can say that he isn't Richard.
