Seen on the news who's to walk her down the aisle and thought 'wouldn't an ex-husband be a better choice', along the lines of 'here you are, you have her next'?

I wonder what James Hewitt's doing on the day?

I will, fortunately, be busy tomorrow, but I'll take my coat.

 That wedding - legacylad
Even my old Mum thinks it ridiculous that’s PCharles is walking her down the aisle. Doesn’t she have any male friends from her tv shows? Or a dog?

 That wedding - DP
One of her Suits co-stars would have been great. On screen fiancee Patrick J Adams, or his boss Gabriel Macht.

 That wedding - Bobby
Ach it gives her a taste for the future where the British establishment will take over her life and dictate what happens to her. And if she steps out of line.....

 That wedding - smokie
Well I'm not particularly a Royalist or a wedding fan but I was persuaded to drive SWMBO and eldest over to Windsor for a look-see and there is already something of a party atmosphere in the streets around the castle. It's really quite fun.

Do you remember fun, you cynical bunch? :-)

Not at my wedding, no.

What's Zeddo videoing on the day I wonder. Windsor's not a million miles away from him.

Its not a million miles away for sure, often a favoured eating/shopping destination, and Mrs Z has already been there this week with her friends for a look see. However, On the day I or her will be nowhere near the place.

I know of someone who is going to Windsor Great Park to watch. They're mot leaving here till 9. I suspect they'll not see a lot. (20 minutes drive from here on a good day - but they do have parking reserved somewheee)

 That wedding - No FM2R
Thames Valley Police said in their plan that they expect the town to be at capacity by 09:00. [Really, that is their official position] I doubt your friend will get to the parking, never mind use it.

I'm a Royalist for sure. Really looking forward to it and I will really enjoy it as will #1 daughter, who is knowledgeable about such things.

#2 daughter is coming with us to a Breakfast to watch the event more out of curiosity than genuine interest. We shall see how that works out. Aside from anything else it will be her first time in the Ambassador's residence, other than a brief visit with me today, so she will definitely enjoy exploring that.

I don't really know why people get bitter and grumpy about these things, but there you are, as far as I can see only the British ever whine about the Royal Family, most of the rest of the world admire them. I love it all.

Best wishes to the couple.
I’ve downloaded a VPN so my old mum can with it on the TV via my phone whilst I’m out walking before returning guests to the airport and collecting next weeks new arrival.
I’ll raise a large G & T to their health on my return

A long standing lunch date in superb country pub - last time we were there they had no telly

Just use iPlayer - it now works in Europe.

I don't mind the royals, I quite like them but I've no interest in watching the wedding or any or the coverage starting days before hand. If others do, fair enough it's their time. I'm not grumpy or miserable, just doesn't appeal to me. A 30 sec clip as a news segment is fine by me.

>> Royal Family, most of the rest of the world admire them.

Nothing in the world beats the British Royal family for glamour. Their big events make Olympics ceremonies, Chinese and Russian mass military parades and the like shoddy by comparison.

What did you do when the wedding was on?

I painted the shed & a few odd spars here & there. Fence to paint but that is for another day(s).

Undoubtedly some will have had a bottle of champagne.

My wife & I had a MAGNUM each!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My one was dark chocolate, SWMBO had the white!!

Was at a dog show. Had a bacon and sausage baguette, a double 99 cornet, a donut, and came home with a red and a yellow rosette, and sunburned ears.

Ate sausages, bacon, beans, mushrooms, hash browns, scrambled eggs, toast and tomato whilst drinking an inordinate amount of first Buck's Fizz and then just champagne.

Met up with friends for a meal at a superb little country pub. No television (thank Lord). Then sat out in our garden with the same friends.

Not a train geek like you Zeddo but have been impressed with some of the photos of the Flying Scotsman doing the rounds up here today. Great video of it coming over the Forth Rail bridge.

Ave Speed for those trips about 30mph. When you have filmed it at 75mph+, thats a bit uninspiring.

"What did you do when the wedding was on?"

That is one date that will forever be planted in my memory - I was lying in a hospital bed recovering after the removal of a defunct left kidney. I shall be eternally grateful to the good people at Addenbrookes.

Glad you're getting better, Haywain, and it seems they must have removed the right (left) kidney if you're well enough to post.

Oh so clever and witty.

I just bet Prince Harry has a good old giggle about how clever these people are for laughing and mocking him, for keep raising it and not letting it drop, even though it wasn't his fault in anyway.

Gosh, I do admire their shining wit.

 That wedding - VxFan
Was there a Royal Wedding today?

Gosh, they kept that quiet. You'd have thought the papers and other media would have been harping on about such thing months ago.

Next you'll be telling me there was some kind of big football match on too.

Right, gonna go now and finish watching that paint dry.

I found it a bit disturbing that some posters (now hidden) found it funny to drag up "jokes" about Harry's parentage.

He lost his mum at 12yo and had to watch the press have a field day speculating about his mother's relationships and fidelity. Glub knows what mental demons he had to cope with in the aftermath of that.

Thankfully his army service seems to have help him grown into a confident young man who is now using his position to help other service personnel with physical or mental issues.

The kid's a good-un and doesn't deserve this carp.

I was converting a 1971 VW camper's charging system from a dynamo to an alternator while the nuptials were going on. Elbow deep in oil and wiring and happy as a pig in ****.

I have nothing against the Royal Family at all, and Harry and Meghan seem like a lovely couple who I sincerely wish all the best, but I'm never going to be interested enough to give up a sunny weekend day to watch the wedding on telly, much less go and stand in Windsor for a day with the hope of catching a glimpse. If that's what floats your boat, fair enough, but it's not for me.

I note there is no apology to me for removing my post of Mon 21 May 18 02:59 pointing out that it isn't always me who is at the root of the trouble on here as I was at work all weekend.

The post didn't break any forum rules, it wasn't rude to anyone, so can you please explain why we should bother posting anything at all if the Mods can remove (or hide) it at their will anything they don't like regardless of whether it conforms to the rules or not?

No wonder it's been so quiet lately, how many others have had this happen?I remember it use to happen to Lud on a regular basis and was always put down to his being ' a tad confused'.

I'm not confused.

A load of stuff was removed essentially because somebody was being gratuitously offensive instead of engaging the issue and I was foolish enough to rise to the bait.

I think structure of site is such that collateral damage is inevitable when personal spats get deleted.

>> I was foolish enough to rise to the bait.

You sad little man, you started it. Making your snide, sneery little comments, and as usual, you can't let it go.

You whined and got all sulky about people making personal comments about you in the middle of your comments about Prince Harry and his Parenthood, and then tried to justify it by first whining that someone else had said it first and then by saying he was fair gamer because he was privileged and you thought it was funny..

Have you always been this petty and little?

Let it go you sad little man. Grow some.

I am beginning to wonder if there is some reason for your snide behaviour on this subject? Has it struck close to home somehow? If so, then I'll leave it alone. I wouldn't like to mock your insecurity or vulnerability about things in your own life.

None of those things.

Prince Harry holds a position of extreme privilege by heredity. For various reasons, including things his mother said (squidgygate, Bashir interview etc), heredity is open to question.

It would probably be better if that were not so or (per Kevin above) it was ignored.

But reality is the suggestion is there.

Either you think it funny or you don't.

In your sneering, snidey little way you see no problem talking about his parentage but when someone comments on the type of person that finds that QUOTING YOUR OWN WORDS funny and fair game, you are outraged about it being personal.

You are a hypocrite, snide, gutless, sneery little man who delights in handing it out but simply cannot take it.. With emphasis on "little".

Have you always been this way?

 That wedding - Kevin
>But reality is the suggestion is there.

>Either you think it funny or you don't.

Bromp, the posts that I found most disappointing were your barely disguised attempts to mock and disparage Harry and then claim that it was "funny".

Would you have done the same if he was a child from an ethnic minority family who had lost his mother in tragic circumstances and then had to see the gory details of her death and speculative headlines about her personal life, not to mention questions about your own parenthood highlighted in the media for months?

To cap it all, as a 12yo boy he had to walk behind his mother's coffin in front of the world's cameras without collapsing into a gibbering wreck. I couldn't have done it.

The telling point to me about his real character is when he was being interviewed on camera in Afghanistan. When a shout came in he just jumped up and sprinted towards his aircraft leaving the interviewer gobsmacked.

As I said before, the lad's a good-un.

Damn, you found out. You shouldn't.

Pat I wouldn't take it personally. If you'd replied to one of the post that were removed/hidden then yours would vanish too.

I know this forum has hierarchical links between posts - allowing for multiple topics in one thread. But if you (like me) usually view it flat, then you might not know you've replied to one that had a post in the thread that was a reply to another.

It is possible to move some replies and tack them back on somewhere else by using the posts ID.... but it's a pain and it's what they do when they create new threads from old long ones or tack things onto say the F1 thread when a new one was started by someone.

I must admit I am disappointed with Bromptanaut in all this. His starting the inappropriate discussions, claiming someone else started it, etc.

The OP mentioned the 'alternative father' and collected his coat. I mentioned another 'joke' on same lines. If I'd realised how sensitive some are on subject then maybe I wouldn't have bothered.

Fair game as far as I'm concerned....

...except the rumours are complete cack and Harry has a fair dose of Spencer rather than Windsor, so it's all just a bit sad.

I'd be more bothered that his old man was porking horseface while still married to his sons' mother, and is likely to be Guardian of the Faith in a few years.

>>!'d be more bothered that his old man was porking horseface while still married to his sons' mother, and is likely to be Guardian of the Faith in a few years.

Indeed, justifiable. Charles could have chosen to be faithful. As could Diana, for that matter.

As opposed to sneering and laughing at a lad on his wedding day for what you prefer to believe his parents may or may not have done. Something that he had no control or influence over.

But to justify it as ok because someone else did it first and because he is privileged and so deserves it, is sad to a whole 'nother level.

Aye.

I'm not a staunch royalist, but neither am I a republican.

Some of the Royals add much more value to the country than they cost it.

My value system roughly equates to "is the world a better place because XXXX was born?"

With Harry it is a most definite yes.
