 Anna Raccoon - Bromptonaut
I seem to recall several people here enjoyed the work of the blogger Anna Raccoon. Declining health led her to delete the site a year or so ago and its content seemed lost.

Ms Raccoon, more properly Susanne Nundy, died last August. Subsequently, and with support of her husband, attempts have been made to restore at least some of the site:

Deleted because she wanted it deleted.

Restored because?

At a particular time yes:

>> Restored because?

It looks as though she returned to writing in mid 2017 with last post only shortly before her death:

Given her widower is part of the plan to resuscitate the site I'm prepared to give new host benefit of any doubt.

Perhaps. I tend to lean towards her own wishes which would appear to be that the stuff was deleted.

Though maybe she changed her mind.

Can't say I've heard of that blog, quickly reading it she was some sort of journalist?

She said the things no one else dared to say. Her blogs reminded me a lot of Peter Simple, making telling points often merely by asking an inconvenient question.
A sad loss.

For example?

That the public was getting tired of hearing about Madelaine McCann.

That the low conviction rate for rape cases arose because the figures were fudged, and the rate was calculated as convictions as percentage of allegations, not percentage of arrests as was the case with other crimes. She claimed that reporting convictions on the same basis actually produced a higher rate than for other crimes.

NB I've no idea whether either was/is actually true - I'm just pointing out two examples of things she said that occur to mind in response to your query.

But I've heard both those opinions from other sources.

So whilst I don't deny she said them, the "no one else dared to say" is most certainly incorrect. Sounds like that dreadful Hopkins woman but in print.

Although she clearly had a gift for writing I'm not aware of her doing actual journalism.

Our paths crossed professionally in the nineties when she was employed visiting those subject to the Court of Protection's oversight and reporting to the Court on their needs etc.

It was evident from her reports that she had a way with words.

Well I am sorry, but based on that first glimpse I see of the new archive site, her stuff should remain buried with her. Its a load of rubbish. Lies may be too strong a description, but made up suppositions, falsehoods and headline grabbing sensationalist conclusions isn't.

She writes well, insofar as vocabulary, grammar and a turn of phrase is concerned, but I can't see that she says anything original and important, and most certainly is not a lone voice.

I certainly didn't read anything of great credibility in the 15 minutes or so I just spent reading some of her stuff.

Though if she enjoyed writing it, and someone else enjoys reading it, then why not. It's the putting on a pedestal that irritates me.
