Miss B and her Beau now have a dog - 16 week old male Show Cocker which Mrs B and I met for first time last weekend.
I'm not a dog person but he's a lovely ball of fur, already house trained and learning other obedience etc tricks. He loves playing with people but when doing so he bites - playful rather than aggressive but sharp enough to draw blood.
How do you train that out?

Firstly its natural puppy behaviour, its play biting. It would naturally normally be in the company of its mother and siblings at this age, and play biting with them. It would realise that that the bites it gets in return hurt, and mother would remind it quite firmly if it tried it with her..
Puppy teeth are very sharp, far more so than adult teeth. They are sharp to aid the lessons outlined above.
Out of the litter now there is no feedback, no limits. It needs to get that feedback. Hopefully its been crate/cage trained so far. Its important that the play does not stop, but when it gets beyond an acceptable "bite" level, time the puppy out with a firm "NO" and return to cage for a while - Timing needs to be good so the dog associates nip/NO = cage
Rules & tips for the future.
Dogs need consistency in commands, rules & feedback from owners,
Socialise, Socialise Socialise. Start it on lead, with other dogs (ask other dog owners first)
Research "clicker" training - its a holy grail
Depending on its breeding, a cocker can be a real live wire, if it is, get the family into some dog fun. Agility,. Flyball, Obedience (my bag) etc etc.
As you will end up dog sitting at some time, welcome to the dog world!
