 Barber disaster - Rudedog
Visited by usual barbers only two weeks ago.... been going there for years.. they actually know me and how I like my haircut.

Saturday morning and I popped up to the shops to get a quick trim to make me feel good... (crappy week at work).

IT"S GONE!!

Apparently now becoming a butchers... they said nothing.

What the hell do I do now? I've got to start the task of months of barber trials to find a replacement.

Very traumatised.

Know what you mean. I changed mine this year after I became concerned about nefarious seeming activities going on inside the premises. There had been a complete change of staff over the years and I got the impression I wasn't really welcome.
Now use one that's handy for Wetherspoon's, although I was a little concerned the last time I went. The guy next to me had the sides shaved, the top dyed ginger and what appeared to be cotton buds decorated with green feathers sticking out of his nostrils. I was told he was having his nasal hairs waxed. Had a quick number four and got out.

Perhaps Mrs R would would fancy having a crack at it. Mrs CS, who is not a trained hairdresser, has been cutting mine for over twenty years now and she's really very good at it.

Ok Kojak :-)

Not a chance CS!

Got my feelers out, useful to pay £11 for #2 back and sides with scissor cut on top (parting on the left).

Seems a few open on a Sunday which could be handy.

One of my regulars (near the BMW and MINI dealer) has gone Hipster and now £12.00 for a trim ! Won't be going back there. Spoilt for choice in the town nearby, £7.00 for the same cut. No brainer.

£7, and you're not even a pensioner! That's good value. Do they do special rates for OAPs?
:)

Dunno ! :-)

Checked 2 barbers in my area. One charging £10.50, the other £12.50. Both have reduced rates for pensioners.

Must pay the wife a little more next cut.

Charge me £12, £2 for the cut and a £10 search fee.

My haircut is £6.25, bargain.

£4.50 is what I pay.

£5.00 here.

£0.00 here.

Bought one of those clipper things with the various attachments that click on the end to determine hair length years ago. Paid for itself over and over again.

£8.00 here for OAP's against £10 normal rate.

Always feel uncomfortable if offered an age discount. Usually accept the reduced amount and give the dicount as a tip.

Why do you feel uncomfortable ?

I appreciate the offer but find age discounts slightly patronising and I suspect that my barber’s income is less than mine so I don’t really need a subsidy

After years working in London and going to Blades, a chain of unisex hairdressers where a cut and dry was approaching £30, I now use a walk in place near local Tesco superstore. Occasionally offered the OAP rate. I'm grey but have a full head of hair and am 58 - I suspect fact I'm not working and getting a cut on midweek morning is reason. Always correct them and pay full rate £11.50 v £8.50.

Of course it is...

I used to get the usual barber 'chat' if I went in during a weekday quizzing me why I wasn't at work... reminds me of the old Roman joke..

"How would you like your hair cut, sir?"

"In silence!"

Before my barbers closed there was one young guy working there who learnt how I liked my hair and cut it without saying a word..much more relaxing..in fact after a long day I once almost feel asleep!

oh I hate "barber chat". I'm sure some people enjoy it, but I do appreciate a barber who is sensitive to his audience and knows when to stfu.

As I have to take out my hearing aids, I have blessed silence
😊

Mine is done on the patio with the No. 2 bit of a Lidl grooming kit. It costs me nowt and I do get to goose the hairdresser. All quite legal but at risk of a slap !

Yes, so is Ian's.

I make him put a jacket on in the winter and refuse to do it in the house, the birds clear it all up outside!

Haircut once a month by a nice lady who also looks after my wife and daughters hair.
