House number 13 - bathtub tom
Walking round my daughter's area, I noticed there's no houses numbered 13, they jump from 11 to 15. This in area of buildings from the mid '60s to modern.

Are the snowflakes taking over?

Don't think this is new or even recent. When i was a kid we stayed several times in a hotel on the Isle of Wight. Room numbers went 12-12A-14.

Even lockers in gyms, leisure centres, and the like often omit the number 13.

Are the snowflakes taking over? no, but wearing one of these may be the answer....

Is it the number 13 that is unlucky or the fact that it is the 13th row? In which case believers should avoid Row14!

Another useless fact

But in a lot of Lufthansa planes you will notice that there is also no row 17. That is because in some countries, for example Italy and Brazil, the typical unlucky number is 17 and not 13. Seeing as Lufthansa welcomes a lot of international passengers we try to consider as many of these specific cultural beliefs as possible. That way, all Lufthansa passengers can enjoy a pleasant flight!

A long standing tradition in the pro cycling ranks is for the rider drawn No 13 to pin the number on his jersey upside down. I believe that in France they are particularly superstitious about that number.

13 has been lucky to us; lots of good things seem to happen on the 13th - and my Dad waited for his new Motorhome so that he could get it on a 13 plate!

We moved into a new house on the 13th, and as it was in a village without house numbers, had to come up with a name. My Mum anagrammed 13 to Trenithe - postcode finder reports it's still called that 40 years later - I wonder if the current owners know the origin of the name???

Certainly in the US, hotels without floors and rooms called 13, planes without rows, and streets without houses used to be very common.

More so than now, if anything.

In a multi-cultural society perhaps all numbers should be avoided.
