Indeed. Long term lung condition.

As a child I was always terrified he would knock on my door one Saturday morning with some ghastly swap or other.

However, in later years, this does make me laugh. I'm afraid though it does require you to be able to bear the Gervais laugh repeatedly. It's also what we would in this house call a bit Eskimo. You might just think it's not very family friendly.

Outtakes from Extras, an estimable series.

Ricky's laugh is even more tiresome than Jimmy Carr's.

However, if I was sat 2 feet from Chegwin while he simulated fornication with his hands, while trying to keep a straight face, I think I would have soiled myself.

Repeatedly.

Gosh, that makes me feel old. I remember watching Swap Shop with him and Noel Edmonds and he wasn't THAT much older than me!

By time he hit telly I was probably working as he's only 2-3 years older. No real memory of him on TV but I seem to remember 'moral outrage' because it was evident from something in on of his programmes that he was sleeping with Maggie Philbin (before they were married).

Others in my house share watched the weekend morning stuff but even then I'd little time for daytime TV.

I used to love Cheggers Plays Pop and Multi-Coloured Swapshop as a kid in the 80s. Cheggers always seemed to be a genuinely down to earth and likeable character both when presenting, and in interviews and so on. Sad that he died so young. RIP.

didn't he er...."appear" in a naked quiz show once..?

Quite shocked at this! Thanks for all the mirth! RIP

Only 60 years old.

I recall recognising him with shock as the son of Banquo (Fleance) in Polanski's Macbeth (1971).

As I never watched his other antics on TV that is my abiding memory of him - as little more than a child (he was 15 at the time). To go from that to the news of his death is quite a jolt.

Cheggers apparently was spotted regularly in and around Newbury (cos he lived not far down the road). Always had time for Joe Public.

I saw him in the town of Swindon a couple of times while he was using the ice rink there for practice while he was a contestant on Dancing On Ice. Likewise, always had time to stop and chat to Joe Public.

Never seemed at all miserable or up himself.
