Congratulations!
It's nice to see a happy couple and have some good news for once!

Absolutely agree and pleased too that younger members of the Royal Family are so adept at encouraging public support for the Royal Family - just a pity that some of them don't match the sterling work rate and dedication to duty of those such as the Queen, Prince Philip, Princess Anne etc.

Three posts and I'm bored already :)

Opium to the masses.
Country is going down the crapper faster than you can say flush, throw a royal wedding to disguise the poo thats coming.

Prince Harry's dad was so pleased to hear the news about his engagement,
and so was Prince Charles.

Not a very cool thing to laugh about, surely? Whoever the people concerned may be.

I can assure you the Royal family are not going to court over this, for one thing they would have to prove its not true. That could be difficult, and you only need to have a pair of eyeballs to see why.

made me grin.

Nobody is going to care that it was said from a legal perspective, I just don't think it's very cool to do.
But hey, if everybody else is fine, I'm not going to die any ditches over it.
I just find it distasteful.

Whatever you do then, don't visit sickipedia, or your brain will go into melt down.

Not really the sort of thing I'm likely to do.

I don't think many would be fooled these days by a Royal wedding. Many don't care about much except themselves. Oh, and maybe how offensive they can be to others which feels to me like it's creeping from online into real life at quite a rate.
Though that is a massive generalisation, even some of my acquaintances have minor traits in that direction now, which they didn't used to, like taking some kind of pride in abusing call centre staff and shop workers for instance. Just watch any of the "reality" programmes and see how little respect people have for each other. Sad really - as you say, going down the crapper.

You have a higher boredom threshold than me.

Come, come. This must be an important event; the Daily Telegraph says so - with 9 full pages of the main issue, a large cartoon, the entire editorial and an 8-page supplement. Unfortunately we had no time to study this material as we had to pick up our new rescue cat and needed a catbox liner. (He was disdainful but you don't need to know how he expressed himself.)
|
Well done for having a rescue cat ambo.

Thunderbirds are go, affirmative Mr Tracy, where's the cat?

As we all know, celebrity sells papers of all kinds, Royals, especially young ones who might do something a little scandalous, are even more marketable than celebrities.

Well, I'll stick my head above the parapet first!
Please don't anyone accuse me of being racist because this isn't either:)
I'm just surprised that a female that is divorced, Catholic and of mixed race has the royal approval.
....or am I just living in the past, because I actually don't see anything wrong in it, but did expect them to!

He has no chance of ascending to the throne and that section of royal bloodline has no royal blood in it anyway. So it matters not really

They said "no chance of ascending to the throne" about Lady Jane Grey, and look what happened to her.

Did they?
Surely it was because she had a very good claim which others were prepared to back by armed rebellion, that she did indeed become queen? And it was the strength of her claim that sealed her fate.
|
>> Did they?
I thought it was pretty quickly obvious she didn't have real support, and the government, such as it was, quickly backed away from her. The armed battle in Norfolk against Mary's army never took place. A letter was sent to Northumberland to disarm before anything actually happened.
Depends on whether you think Henry's Succession Act was capable of being overturned by Edward's "Device", as he did. At the time of course, and once Mary was in place, the lawyers decided it wasn't legal, didn't they?
And when the Act originally went into law, Lady Jane was only fifth in line, so Henry must have thought it unlikely she'd get there, putting Mary and Elizabeth first.
I don't think she had much of a claim at all.

Wonder how long it will take for Prince Philip to stick both feet in it with some sort of racist remark over dinner? ;-)
|

The chances he will be king for nine days and have his head chopped off are pretty remote
|
If he gets his brother and his three nephews/nieces bumped off, he can become king after Charles.... so no real chance then.
And Megan is a protestant I think and will be baptised before the wedding apparently.

Yes we all know that mate. And when his new niece/nephew is born in April he'll be sixth in line. So another one in the way of him ever being king.
|

Is she Catholic? Her father is described as Caucasian and her mother as African American. Quick Google suggests a Catholic schooling but not that she's an adherent.
Since the first in line is married to a divorcee I guess that jinx has been forgotten. And of course there was far more rum stuff with 'Uncle David' then his affair with Wallis Simpson.
Harry was the spare but since his brother and wife have proved their fecundity he's redundant in that role.
|
It was reported at lunchtime today that Meghan is a Catholic but how accurate that is, is anyone's guess.

I googled it and found a Daily Mail article saying she was a Catholic but apart from attending an expensive Catholic School there wasn't much substance.
Was she confirmed? A regular attendee at Communion/Confession?
Even if she was doesn't seem any need to take to CofE given, as we've already recounted, their offspring won't get anywhere near the throne.

I agree, but having said that some friends of ours had to 'convert' before they could be married in a C of E church.
Well, one of them did.
Pat

It's now reported that Ms. M will be baptised, confirmed and granted UK citizenship (Dual with the USA) before getting hitched.
Apparently she in nominally a Proddie.
|
They are getting wed in the chapel at Windsor castle. Im betting a: its not a church, and b: they will need to pop over the road to the registry office after.

Personally I’m not particularly bothered, but hey, congratulations, I hope they remain very happy together and enjoy long and healthy lives.
|
I would expect that any extremists of whatever type that give these two grief would attract the attentions of the authorities pretty rapidly.

Or, as suggested elsewhere:
Successful actress Meghan Markle to wed former soldier.

And to me she looks a lot like Pippa Middleton... is it just me?

There are alternatives:
From today’s I Paper
“Parasite Marries Scrounger†remains my favourite headline for a royal wedding story, I think coined by The Socialist Worker to mark the betrothal of HRH the Prince Andrew and the Miss Sarah Ferguson, in 1986. It narrowly beats the one that ran somewhere in the revolutionary leftist press in 1981 when the Palace announced the Prince of Wales’ ill-fated engagement to Lady Diana Spencer – “Big Ears to Marry Noddyâ€.

Never had you down as a reader of the socialist worker cgn.

I’m not - like I said it was in today’s I.
Intrigued to find the SW still exists though. Might become a regular reader.

'Struth, CG, I didn't realise that life in Norfolk was so grim.

I've always considered Socialist Worker to be a contradiction in terms.

So I guess if she had no religion then she would have zero chance of getting married?
|
A belief in God is not an absolute requirement, indeed it might be considered a hindrance for membership of the C of E.

She is a tidy bit of kit good on him, Its a good way of keeping on side with the Americans marry one.lol

"Hostage to fortune" springs to mind.

Means we have trump as a relative at the wedding. Cant wait to see him dancing.

Diana was different but when they got her out of the way my perception of this strange family changed.
Can't have been easy for her two lads to grow up the way they did.Just my opinion for what it is worth.Good luck to Harry she looks a lovely lass.

That's a conspiracy theory that doesn't stack up, it was simply an unfortunate accident.

Compounded by the failure to observe certain basic safety precautions.
i.e. Don't be driven by someone on drugs and/or drink. Don't try to outrun motorbikes in a city centre. Wear your seat belt.
That sort of thing.

The re-cycled gags are starting to appear, this one made I larf...
Harry and Meghan have announced that there will be no traditional fruit cake at their wedding reception, but Prince Philip says they can get stuffed because he's turning up whether they like it or not.
|
I understand she converted to Judaism on her first marriage.
As a colleague stated - She's a catholic/jewish, mixed race american divorcee, all she needs is a wooden leg to tick all the boxes!

No she would also need a LGBT qualification.

I notice that already Meghan Sparkle is being compared with Kate Middlebrow.
