And sub it all out to Google.

My phone has been trawling through my emails and today when I am leaving Spain it has given me an agenda.

What time the hire car needs to go back
How to get to the car hire drop off, what the projected traffic will be and what time I need to set off

My flight number the check-in time and estimated gate number of my flight, with a promise to confirm that later

Latest deals in the Airport duty free

Estimated arrival at Gatwick, location of the car at the long term cat park, and an estated time home

Scary stuff

Smarter planet indeed.
Positive side of what you can get from an interconnected world.
Questions - how much of that did you allow? how much did you know it had access to? how much of that did you request/expect? how much of that do you mind it doing?

That's scary
I turned my phone to Flight mode and 'no roaming' when departing LBA ten days ago
Turned it back after arrival home yesterday evening
Only used it for photos.
And now it's pouring with rain and I regret coming home
Humph would appreciate the daily pre sunrise swims, laps around the gulet with new friends, the midnight swims, kayaking and snorkelling

Sounds great LL !

What would be the deal in using your phone "normally" in Turkey? Is it expensive?
 GCHQ? Sack them - legacylad
Sorry, no idea
The 2 Dutch, 2 South Africans & 3 Turks on the gulet used their phones occasionally. 7/9 nights we were at anchor in bays, only berthing twice to take on fresh bread, veg, beer & refill the water tanks so I could have used wifi ashore
I purposely didn't use my phone...folks back in the UK could contact me via the Dutch company ( SCIC) in case of emergency

All that technology, and your phone still can't auto predict what you're trying to write and spell it correctly ;)

GCHQ? sack them. Be careful who you annoy, I would expect that they could brick your phone and anything else you have connected to the internet if the put their mind to it. :-)
