Just seen on the BBC that the extraordinary actor Sir John Hurt has died from pancreatic cancer.

With Gordon Kaye's passing comic actors and thespians are keeping each other company in the next world.

I think we notice it more as we become, or pass the age of, famous folk whose fame was contemporaneous with our own life span.
I agree John Hurt was a truly great actor, although he came across in interviews as a bit of a luvvie. Goes with the "National Treasure" label a bit, I suppose.
