 Windy weather - legacylad
Several roads closed around Leeds Bradford so I'm not heading off to visit my elderly aunt in the Nursing Home today. Lots of flights cancelled in & out of LBA, and the Ryanair from Dublin which had been holding at 5,000' for some time has now diverted elsewhere. I bet that wasn't much fun for those onboard.
Glad I wasn't on booked on the 6:10 KLM to AMS, with two subsequent connecting flights to my CA based friends. I very nearly was.

We have had a bit of a breeze too.

There is nothing under the central bridge grille the lorry is resting on but water, a long way down!

Pleased to see he's been prosecuted.

A classic case of a driver trying to be big and clever.

What the heck is Thundersnow?? - the things folk think up to add a bit of drama to a bit of rough weather!!!

Will he be liable for the cost of the operation to remove the lorry and the damage to the bridge?
 Windy weather - Pat
No, his employer will be but he can't deduct that from the drivers wages without his agreement.

It isn't just that though, look at how long that bridge will be closed now, inconveniencing thousands of people just because he thought he knew better than the road signs.

It's hard to put a cost on that.

I was intending to drive up to Wales tomorrow, but seeing the weather forecast I've decided to knock the idea on the head for now

Not that I'm likely to over-concern myself with a bit of ice and snow, but the thought of driving all the way there and all the way back with rain, rain, rain ... No thank you.
 Windy weather - CGNorwich
I thought it was always raining in Cornwall.
 Windy weather - Dog
Not a single drop today ... yet!

If you're ever passing my friend I'd love to buy you a pint or make you and the missus a cuppa.

Cheers Martin, I have your email address if I'm ever up that way. I was looking (on Rightmove) at property in Berrynarbor yesterday, pretty pricey area I see. Have you built anything up that way I wonder?

This place looks a tad better than a flat in SE London (for about the same price!!)

You do not get any even half decent sort of flat in South East London for 375 k these days Dog...

He!icopter jr has just first time bought on his own a new build 2 bed flat in SE17 near the Old Kent Road and Elephant , admittedly in Zone 1 and within 3 miles of everywhere in the city but still 590 k ( plus nigh on 20k stamp duty )...

I know that it is your old stamping ground and used to be rough but the area is changing fast and being gentrified ,

Similar flats to his are already selling for 20 k more...the London housing market is mad.
 Windy weather - Dog
We left Southwark in '87 retpocileh, and have heard from rellies how much the area has changed/is changing.

This is where we used to live - far RH side on the 3rd floor: london-se1.co.uk/news/view/8308

If we still lived there, and sold up now, we could well-afford that place in N. Devon, and have enough left over for a an 'alf-decent used car :)

We don't regret selling up back in '87, if I had remained in sowf lunden, I wouldn't be the person I am now
(whatever that is!)

Certainly sounds like, i think I'd really struggle to buy a house near me that cost that much. Houses that expensive are very few and far between.
 Windy weather - MD
Berrynarbor is a quirky old place, but very sought after hence the prices. I'm no expert, but that doesn't seem too over the top. There is a chap in our local town who has just done/is doing some renovations and building up there. If you ever want to buy in this area I'd be happy to cast an eye over it for you for the price of a cuppa Guvnor.
 Windy weather - CGNorwich
I spent a number of of childhood holidays in Berrynarbor. We used to stay in a guest house called "Pink Heather" driving down there from Ilford in an A35. I see that there are now holiday cottages of the same name so I guess its the same place. There was a pub called the Globe I think and a little rocky path that you could get down the cliffs to the sea.

A week would be incomplete for me somehow, if I hadn't looked on Rightmove at least 3 or 4 times.
Also, I never miss an episode of Escape to the Country, and have a few spares on my Humax just-in-case.

I keep threatening to sell this place and move on, been here 6 years in April, so ready for a move.
Looked at Devon, Somerset, Wiltshire, Herefordshire, Shropshire, Cumbria, Tenerife, Spain, Cyprus etc. etc. etc.

Tis okay here though, quite peaceful with good neighbs, and far far from the madding crowd.!
 Windy weather - legacylad
I would be happy for you to buy me a pint should you ever be in the locality of upper Ribblesdale. £2.95 for a decent pint of proper beer in my nearest local.
This mornings am flight from to LBA from Dublin diverted to L'pool. Then a coach journey over t'Pennines.

Probably an advert break. :-)

Or maybe he just drives it back onto the road.

If it had been exciting they'd have shown the lot I expect.
 Windy weather - Bromptonaut
Talk in radio of people on Lincs coast being advised to move to safe areas becuase of possible peak tide. Jaywick in Essex being evacuated for similar reasons.
 Windy weather - Duncan
A sprinkling of snow, here in leafy Surrey.
 Windy weather - Dog
A few flakes of white stuff, here in Sunni Cornwall.
 Windy weather - Old Navy
Only a dusting of snow in my bit of Scotland. It must be bit cool outside though, I can see ice sparkling in the moonlight.
 Windy weather - R.P.
Nawt on Mona's isle - bit nippy that's all

Saw 2 feet of snow earlier

Nought in north Devon. Just windy and chilly.
 Windy weather - Bromptonaut
A sprinkle in South Northants. Will take main road to work rather than usual back route so as to be on gritted road asap.

Brought up in north I know how to drive in snow. Unfortunately there are too many locals who don't - particularly 4*4s who think AWD/ABS/TC will trump the laws of physics
 Windy weather - Dog
Nuffink here, but I did hear of snow in Dobwalls, which is betwixt Doublebois and Liskeard for those of you listening in colour.

Just looked out the office window. A light sprinkling of snow is coming down.
Last night I had to clear approx. 2" to 3" of the stuff off the windows and lights before driving home. Roads were also very slushy, but 3 miles down the road they had no snow at all. When I got home, my car was the only one that had snow on it.
 Windy weather - R.P.
Sunny here - no snow. 6 degrees. Significant coverage on the mountains.
 Windy weather - Runfer D'Hills
Just back from a round trip from south Cheshire to Edinburgh and back today. Fair bit of snow at the sides of the main roads and occasional slush in lane 3 up through the Lakes etc.

No real problems, just a long drive !

Car covered in salt now though. It copes very well with the slippy stuff despite its reputation.

Was thinking of a trip to Llandegla over the weekend but the forecast is a bit gloomy. Wet and cold it seems.

@RP any local knowledge on the weekend weather in those parts?
 Windy weather - Roger.
No sign of beastly white stuff here in North Notts.
Clear night now and colder than a witches tit.
All curtains drawn, C.H. on full blast to 23C and the screen frost-shield on the car.

Well the weather pundits were wrong (again). Woke up to clear skies, sunshine and no frost.
All this fuss, nationally, about a bit of normal winter weather and to read and listen to, the media, one would have thought the Four Horsemen were about to ride over the country.

Bah, humbug!

We were forecast what you have now but it's only just arriving here. An hour ago it was sleeting and there was frost on cars at 08:00.

The fuss about a bit of snow/ice was grossly overplayed. HAving been brought up and learned to drive 500-700 feet above sea level we saw far worse than yesterday most winters and still got to school/work etc on time.

Threat of coastal flooding though was very real. Spring tide plus Northerly wind funnelling water from North Sea into Channel could very easily have over-topped defences. A few more knots of wind or a few degrees variation in direction and swathes of East coast would be on disaster mode this morning. Friend of mine who does security/contingency stuff for a large Govt Dept was on standby overnight.

My son's girlfriend was "snowed in" yesterday. At least in so far as her 10 mile bus journey to college was cancelled due to the weather. I had driven more or less past the college and subsequently close to and past where she lives a couple of hours earlier at about 5.00 AM, and while admittedly there had been a wee bit of snow overnight, it had stopped, and it certainly wasn't enough to be concerned about with the roads having been gritted and cleared. I continued on up to Scotland and back in a rear wheel drive automatic, with watch strap profile, beer barrel width "summer" tyres. At no point did I feel endangered or reckless. Never even saw a flicker of the TC light in the 500 mile round trip.

There was a bit of slush here and there but all major roads were totally useable. Some car parks in the motorway service areas etc were still covered with frozen snow, to a depth of a couple of inches maybe but again, nothing to fret about.

Health and safety wonkery at work no doubt.

As I suspected.

All the benefits claimants from Jaywick were evacuated and what happened?

Nuffink.
 Windy weather - Pat
>> benefits claimants <<

Care to explain that one Duncan?

Is it an attempt at humour?

Is it a derogatory term?

Are they not entitled to the same protection because they claim benefits?

It's very nice here at the moment (West Wilts), sunny and the wind has died down. My missus and I have been enjoying a cup of coffee in the sun seated on the patio (South facing)

Hornsea had flooding that area of the East coast up to the river Humber is very prone to Coastal Erosion.

It is getting worse year by year North Easterly gales in the winter is the cause.
