"Rabbi Lionel Blue's combination of wit, humility and compassion appealed to and entertained those of all beliefs and of none." (BBC website)
One of my favourite voices from the radio.
|
Can't say I've ever heard of him.
|
Usually on Pause For Though or similar programs. Quite a balanced and insightful bod.
Shame. RIP
|
Clearly my learned fiend doesn't listen to R4 in the mornings.
|
I don't listen to R4 ever.
|
>> I don't listen to R4 ever.
What do you listen to?
|
>> What do you listen to?
Anything other than R4, or anything that has similar content to it.

Same here.
Probably why I've heard of him.
|
I guess I dip in and out of most Radio stations from time to time. Probably listen most to R4, Five Live, R2, Jazz FM, Classic FM, Absolute Radio (for Frank Skinner on Saturday morning) plus I regularly subscribe to half a dozen or so podcasts both British and American.

Me neither.
Here's his obituary for anyone else that's never heard of him.

I'd forgotten him - used to be a favourite.
He told ever so slightly risque jokes, hence his nickname Rabbi Lionel Blue-joke.

>>I don't listen to R4 ever.
You are missing out on some excellent comedy, current affairs, medical and science programming as well as a much more in-depth reporting of the news at 18:00.

Not forgetting 'Women Talking About Cars with Victoria Coren Mitchell'.
Never listened to it myself though.

A Rabbi Blue Joke
A devote worshipper dies and goes to heaven.
God greets him at the gate and asks if he would like a meal.
"Yes please" says the worshipper.
"Egg and chips ok?" asks God.
"Errr, I was rather expecting something like Nectar and Ambrosia", said
the worshipper.
"Well" said God, "It didn't seem worth it for just the two of us"
I can remember him on R4 appearing directly after tirade by Cardinal Keith O'Brian against the awful consequences of gay marriage which he called an abomination.
The Rabbi, who was for course himself gay was on a a few minutes later on "Thought for the Day" and told the a story of young lovers walking in the Spring sunshine
"A gay couple arm-in-arm walk behind a young man and his girl," he said. "Suddenly the boy and girl have a flaming row and one of the gay couple remarks sadly to his partner: 'That is what comes of mixed marriage.'"
|
Never heard of him but I rarely listen to Radio 4. My missus does though, she likes Woman's Hour.

Don't discount it. Eyes and Ears open and Mouth shut as Father would say.

That is very funny. very very funny.

He was always entertaining on Thought for the Day. Brightened up my M3 misery every time he was on there. RIP.
|
I liked his contributions very much. I can remember my delight whenever he was announced as the day's speaker on Thought for the Day. I would usually be laughing before he finished the joke.
