He was a Dutch bloke (1870 - 1946) who specialised in spoken and written English. The poem is a bit long but it does show how similar words are pronounced quite differently, and is quite clever IMO.

Friend of mine who taught English (one-on-one to wealthy Russians) used to save this up for an end of term exercise.
