What really rankles is they gave him two chances.
In my world he wouldn't have been given a second chance.
I think community service is better in many cases than banging someone up....say minimum 240 hours for starters, 5x12 hour day shifts for four consecutive weeks. And that excludes getting to/ from your point of work. Litter picking Is a good start. Hopefully in pouring rain.
Miss any day of the week, then start again.

I like the Australian version of community service. I came across a team of youngsters in bright orange overalls relaying a path to a viewpoint with big stone slabs on a hot day. On enquiring about the situation with their supervisor I was told "These boys and girls have been a bit naughty".

That was hot and hard labour!
