Am I correct in thinking that most house insurance policies exclude risks associated with 'vermin' damage. Ants will be reclassified as vermin?

A fairly typical exclusion would be:

"We will not cover: damage caused by wear and tear, settlement and shrinkage, vermin, insects, fungus, weather conditions, or any damage which happens gradually.”

In the extremely unlikely event that these ants found my house and it burned down because of their activities in my sockets, I'd be pretty unhappy if the insurer wouldn't pay out.

I predict the rise of ten pound "fire ant" policies or add-ons.
