 Dog owners? - Old Navy
While stopped behind a Volvo estate with two dog cages in the back I noticed the name tags on the cages. Left cage was stupid, right cage stupider. There followed a discussion as to whether the names were repeated across the top of the windscreen or if not what would be there. :-)

I take it you are a dog owner. I have news for you, dogs don't speak human languages although many owners seem to think they do and hold conversations with them.

I'll take that as a no. Long conversation was it?

The two dogs were called Stupid and Stupider? Why would you want your dogs' names on the windscreen?

Confused of Norwich

...many years ago, when on a walking/climbing trip in Torridon in the Western Highlands, I passed a refuse cart with a windscreen sun-band (all the rage then) reading Howard.......Doris.

I thought it very odd in oh so many ways..........

(It wasn't until quite some time later that it suddenly occurred to me that the firm then building oil platforms in the adjacent Loch Kishorn were in fact, Howard Doris doh! )

Talking about Dogs.I've seen quite a few Dog S/Bags been deposited in peoples gardens or hedges must be a new craze.

If Dutchie is referring to the OP, then he's barking up the wrong tree. Old sundodger was formerly Old Navy.

A sad day when the tot was stopped. Understandable when nuclear reactors and weapons were introduced and it all got a little bit more serious.

Hardly at random, but it kept you safe. If the Americans and NATO hadn't won the cold war you might be speaking Russian by now.

If the Russians hadn't won the Second World War you might be speaking German by now.

If it hadn't been for the Welsh at Rorke's Drift, you'd be speaking Zulu.....

....I thought it was Michael Caine (though not many people know that ;-) )

I think you'll find it was Stanley Baker, the man in charge and, if you didn't realise, a welshman.

From the Rhondda.

The way things are going you will all be speaking Arabic in some form, I don't think I will be around long enough to suffer it.

Yes, yes, you've already regaled us with stories of your fear of what you call "brown" people in London.

Its hardly new and it wasn't very impressive the first time.

They do not frighten me, they have displaced or replaced, call it what you will, the white indigenous population in many areas and changed the whole feel of areas that I grew up in.

Will extra tutoring be available? I'm not very good at foreign languages.

Me neither.

Interestingly in virtually all the places I work the ability to speak English is seen as an aspirational thing, a sign of being well educated, and something people are proud of.

Which given the quality of my Spanish / Portuguese / Italian is just as b***** well.

It just doesn't play as well in the headlines to the fearful planks.
