How does the hobby of pedantry rank against train and plane spotting, stamp and teapot collecting etc. ?

I don't wish to appear pedantic, but pedantry is not actually a hobby.

Your exclamation mark doesn't require a space. It should follow directly after the word.

Do you really mean stamp and teapot collecting? I suppose there might be some such collectors but the appeal seems limited.
Perhaps you meant stamp or teapot collecting etc.?

It's hard to build a collection of teapots if you keep stamping on them.
But then, stamping is the best thing that could happen to your typical 'collectible' teapot in the shape of an owl or a Morris Minor.

" How does the hobby of pedantry rank ... "
Ranks No. 1, It's the basic qualification (if you call it "attention to detail")
Can be extremely frustrating for anyone even remotely "free thinking", (from personal experience !)
but let's be fair though, it's probably essential for ...
Detectives, Bletchley Park employees, Research workers, Doctors, NASA workers, Channel Tunnel builders, etc.
Motoring connection -
Allo allo allo, do you realise that you were doing 31mph in a 30mph zone, for at least 1/000th of a second (camera shutter speed), and i hereby fine you 100squid and 3 points for reckless driving. Now go away and consider yourself a bad, anti-social, life threatening person. (4am is irrelevant, speeding is speeding !!)
Pedantry may or not be a hobby, but could easily be a very frustrating obsession.

As the stamp collector said: "Philately will get you everywhere".

I used to collect stamps and first day covers.Nice hobby and interesting.

I smoke cigarettes. Yep, i know. But it is still legal to do so.
Last week, I was waiting inside the bus station, and some woman turn sup and starts haranguing the staff because somebody was smoking OUTSIDE the station. but was inside the 10m limit imposed by law.
Fine.
The fact she was on an open platform, with two lanes of traffic on either side of her was immaterial.
So... Bus arrives, we pile on.
Get to my stop, she shunts out as well. As I left the station, I sparked one up.
She starts screaming about how I'm abusing her lungs etc etc etc.
Again, the bus stop is in the centre of a dual carriageway.
Some folk...
(there is, maybe apocryphal, a story of the Red Arrows at an airshow. Upon landing, and going to the public area, somebody has a point of view about a pilot smoking. He looked at his marlboro, and said to the chap:'I and my colleagues have just burned X hundred pounds of jet fuel above you head THIS is F*** All.'

Sorry Sooty, it's Ahh, YOU'RE new here.
Don't wish to be pendantic but......old habits, etc.

>>An hour?
I don't mean to be pedantic, but it's actually fifty one minutes.

To be pedantic, you did mean to be pedantic.

To be pedantic, I was actually demonstrating my unique ability to tell the time.
|
...but, to be pedantic accurate, that is not unique.....

It is in my house. Mrs O'Reliant sets the clocks, and every damn one shows a different time. The first Mrs O'Reliant was the same.
Drives me up the wall.

When I smoked (smug grin), I used to cycle to work. I would to point out to the complainers that my tobacco habit produced far less pollution than their drive to work.

Is there any evidence that pedants are sad?
Or that observing a pedant in action makes others sad? Just glad not to be one, I'd have thought.
