Good old Cruif.I grew up in the same time in the sixties. We played a team from Amsterdam youth side.Our team Technical School got wel beaten they where far ahead of us. He was the player, good turn the ball on a sixpence,he was wanted by the players to be the Dutch national coach.Johan was interested. RIP Can't believe he is dead two years older than me. We where the best team in both matches Argentinia and Deutsland.Ok we lost but the total football concept players changing places will always be rememberd. That team enjoyed playing football but where not ruthless enough against opposition. Reply to this message | Report message

That is a bit harsh Zero.Team spririt yes, Cruif could be a bully and the majority of the players where top notch.It has been a problem with the Dutch national team that there was always a lot of infighting. The top players wanted Cruif to be the Dutch national coach because they knew he could bind them into a top team.He refused maybe a step to far.No guts? Cruif used to be kicked to hell because of his skill.Asked Van Basten why he retired another top player kicked of the park..:) Reply to this message | Report message
