I've had cosmetic surgery on my teeth.
I'm vain about not looking like someone called Black Jake with gaping gaps and blackened stumps, so I confess to having had fillings and crowns.

Interesting. I had to have a filling last year and discovered that the NHS only covers amalgam fillings, not white ones.

I paid the extra which I suppose includes me in the "cosmetic dentistry" bracket.

It's debatable whether that's "cosmetic". I know a health freak who had all of his amalgam fillings replaced with the white stuff because he was concerned about the mercury in amalgam. His dentist did it under protest.

I'm a 'health freak' who had all of his amalgam fillings removed and replaced with white stuff (privately) but,
I didn't realise thems weren't covered by the national elf service - should one require a filling.

Yep! .. I had a dam dam in place while mine were replaced. Sure you lose some healthy tooth each time you have any a new filling - I'm waiting until the time when I can grow a pair [of teeth]

Still? When did you last check? My father went on claiming 6'4" well into his sixties (which he didn't get out of) although it was clear to me by then that he'd lost a good piece of that; he looked about the same as my 6'1" little brother. The US NIH reckons 1cm per decade from the age of 40, with the shrinkage accelerating after 70.

It's mostly due to loss of muscle tone and bone density, both of which exercise can counteract. Most evident when you see old men at funerals wearing little-used suits they bought before they retired that are now far too big in the shoulders. I now know that their penises are no longer big enough to fill their trousers either; serves me right, I suppose.
