A very flawed personality, but anyone who saw him play will know he was the most exciting player ever to pick up a cue. And certainly the fastest, he made Ronnie O'sullivan seem like the slow boat to China.
Died today after a long battle with throat cancer.

61 ... 3 years older than me :(

Very sad - I remember watching him play as I grew up through the 80's - one of my childhood idols, in fact I wrote to him and he replied with a signed photo
I looked around the net a few months back to see how he was doing, but kind of wished I hadn't - should have stuck with my childhood memories.
The game is not the same now - I miss the scenes of him playing with 60 B &H stacked up and a glass of whisky playing through a smog of fag smoke :-)

Sad that I hadn't heard of his situation or his demise. Brilliant player, no touch and tuck, just went for it. RIP

I once interviewed him in Accrington at the Elite Club - he completed two 147 breaks in practice while I was waiting to talk to him..:-)
The finest "thin cut" player of an object ball the world has ever known.

Funds raised for medical treatment to be used for a decent send off.
