I don't often get stopped in my tracks by an opinion or a point of view, but this one gave me pause for thought....
"We are advised NOT to judge ALL Muslims by the actions of a few lunatics, but we are encouraged to judge ALL gun owners by the actions of a few lunatics. Funny that."

An American has a roughly 0.85% chance of dying as the result of gun homicide or suicide.
A Brit has 0.02% chance.
I'm happy my neighbours don't have guns.
I'm even more happy my disturbed patients don't have guns.
>>but we are encouraged to judge ALL gun owners by the actions of a few lunatics
This is simply a silly statement - who suggests all gun owners are killers?

>>Those stats reliable?
As reliable as they can be, I guess.
Death rate per 100,000 is 10.64 per year in US, and 0.23 per year in UK.
An American is twice as likely to use their gun on themselves as kill someone else (as is a Brit).
Chile, for interest, is about 10x the UK rate but still ¼ the US rate - it appears to be the lowest for any South American nation (Bolivia stats appear incomplete so can't put much weight on them).
Japan, S.Korea and Hong Kong have by far the lowest rates, and almost all gun deaths there are suicides.

Is the gun lobby really that thick? Yet more justification to restrict ownership.
