Too bad the email header isn't from the domains it mentions:
82.128.82.192 ([82.128.82.192]) (proxying for 82.128.82.192) (SquirrelMail authenticated user armag@firstnet.bj)
Which country is .bj?!
Domain doesn't exist either.
Wonder if I should contact MS and ask for my money? ;-)

Benin (West Africa) - surprise, surprise.
|
Republic of Benin, formerly Dahomey, renamed around 1970 by Major Kerekou following a military coup. Source of countless thousands of African slaves back in the bad old days. Also the original home of what is now called 'Voodoo'. Capital Cotonou, 100miles west of Lagos in Nigeria.
Should not be confused with Benin City in Nigeria which is some 300 miles to the East. Benin City, capital of the Bini people, used to be the centre of a powerful city-state whose architecture and social organisation greatly impressed sixteenth-century European visitors. No written records but considerable artistic heritage including wonderful cast bronze heads and masks made by the lost-wax system. The king or Oba of Benin is a politically important traditional notable in Nigeria to this day, and British-educated like his immediate predecessor.
Wiki indeed! Pah!

Never even heard of that country!

'Benin (pronounced /bɨˈnɪn/), officially the Republic of Benin, is a country in West Africa.'
What a surprise!

Wiki is a wonderful tool, and I'm waiting for it to stop raining so I can carry on painting!

...Wiki is a wonderful too...
Yes it is, but there are also plenty of inaccuracies in it.
Fine for a bit of forum banter, but if a piece of information was ever really important to you, you would be well-advised not to rely solely on Wiki for it.

I stand corrected........Sir:)

Pat,
I wasn't trying to correct anybody, merely trying to add to the thread, although I admit provenance of information is a bit of a hobby-horse of mine.
That doesn't mean everything has to be nailed on correct, there's a place for 'rumour has it' and 'in my opinion'.
'According to' is a phrase I like - the reader can make up their own mind as to the likely veracity of what is being said or written.

If you are aware of inaccuracies why not correct them?
I have corrected and updated lots of pages as well as supplying links to other sources of info.
I just chuck the info in and an editor will format it at a later stage as I cannot be wasting my time learning their formats.

Henry,
Didn't know how, but from your post I see it's easier than I thought.

Last time I corrected a wikipedia page I had a running battle with someone who insisted on "correcting" it back again.
In the end I quoted a million sources and I got my way, but if I hadn't persevered it would probably be wrong still.

If Wikipedia is really so full of inaccuracies does somebody care to explain why "America's Finest New Source" uses it as a reference?

I think that you are just a bunch of cynics, trying to cast doubt on Wikipedia's accuracy for your own ends.

I find it a great reference tool. But like Iffy says be careful. Yep i know you can update etc, that could be a problem if the update is incorrect as Iffy says.

Beware beware, the Bight of Benin.
Only one comes out, for every fifty went in!
