Bad.

The TGV system is very safe.

There has, up until now, been no fatalities since 1981 on the network.

A sensor train travels the network using ultrasound to test the tracks on a very regular basis.

I do hope this wasn't sabotage.

5 deaths on level crossings.

excess speed mentioned.

Round a quite sharp curve, no wonder the thing derailed.

Was the driver all right, or merely dozy? Either way he bears a heavy moral burden.

I guess most of the dead victims were people smoking in the connecting places between carriages. Glad I wasn't among them.

Isn't that the flagship line where they have previously run in excess of 400km/h?

The crash happened during a test run in the town of Eckwersheim, on a new Paris-Strasbourg line.

No passengers then...thank goodness.

Enough for seven to be killed. Perhaps they were only BR staff, but even they are human beings.

I wonder how many survivors there were in the overturned coaches? No one is saying.

Yer, Eurosummink wannit?

I agree that 'BR' gives a dusty, grubby impression far removed from the nice warm or b***** freezing when it isn't working but anyway spotless, insecticide-reeking carriages on Southern or whatever it's called.

Horrible Jeremy Kyle is bullying exhibitionist inadequates in the corner. I can't resist genuine schlock TV.

Reports say there were 49 people on the train FWIW.

well, when you weigh 100 tons plus, and you are doing 400kmh, and you hit solid concrete structures fixed to the bedrock, you tend to come apart a bit in a pretty spectacular manner.

Up to 11 dead, and it's reported that there were children on board, not just 'technicians'.
