Actor and film writer Colin Welland has died at age of 81 after suffering from Alzheimers. Excepting Brian Blessed probably the last surviving member of the main cast from the original Z Cars.

Recall him as the teacher in Kes but I'd forgotten his later work as a writer, in particulr his role in Chariots of Fire.

I did wonder if Terence Edmond, who played PC Sweet in the series might still be alive but a check on Google shows he died in 2009. He was the first of the cast to be killed off in the series, I believe.
