Can one properly stifle a yawn?
Mrs B has a problem with her jaw. Her consultant has advised her to avoid yawning but she's finding it a reflex action that she cannot fully suppress. I've had similar problems not yawning in meetings etc and in past myself and others have has sarky comments from managers on the subject.
Can you hide a yawn?

I think the urge can be resisted sometimes, but to say one can stop them is another matter. After all, we all have the reflex action that if somebody else yawns, we too get the urge.

yes you can, every time. you just need to be aware you are (about to) doing it.

Stand in front of her and keep pretending to yawn. Just so she can practice resisting, of course.

It's true that some yawning is compulsive, with no malice intended.
All the same, it's very damn rude to yawn openly, and not difficult to hide a yawn more or less completely.
Nevertheless people do it at me all the time. What's the matter with the carphounds?
