Does anyone know what the tall (10M ?) vertical cylindrical devices with boxes similar to the fiber optic ones near their base are for? I can't find a photo or reference to them online.

I may have the answer, I checked the Ofcom sitefinder website and there is a mobile phone base station at the location I saw today.

Is that the black stalk with the bulge at the top and equipment cabinets at the bottom? There's one on the outskirts of Weston that's been puzzling me for the past week.

Nothing to worry about, it's only Big Brother keeping us safe from subversion and misbehaviour.

Just keep doing your duty to the party and you should be all right.

No, there are several in this area, they are a vertical post, thicker than a lamp post, with a slightly thicker section about two metres tall at the top. All painted grey.

Some sort of mobile phone mast I think. Certainly the equipment box by the one outside Northampton Station has a Vodaphone logo on.

Yes, but what party? That 'Citizen Smith' bloke Corbyn looks a bit interesting, doesn't he? Power to the People!

Lower power "fill-in" mobile masts to increase coverage over a small area (500m radius?), where there are no suitable structures to mount the equipment on (pylons, buildings, petrol station price signs}.

I wonder if they are 4G enabling? I believe the 4G range is less than 2 or 3G.
