Something weird on Flight Radar.
Kuwait Airways Boeing 777 Flight KAX 118 New York to Kuwait City, has done an emergency 360 turn just short of Frankfurt, so ignored landing there, Overflow Brussels, ignoring landing there, and is heading on a course for the North Sea
I suspect it going to join the airway over London for Heathrow,

Its coming to back to Heathrow, I would guess its where they have engineering support.
|
Sky news says Heathrow. It would be Stansted if it was terrorist related.
|
According to Flight Radar its landed on the A316 near Twickenham Stadium. That will cause a jam.
(flight radar gets notoriously unreliable at low altitudes)

Like asylum, the nearest place of safety should have been a priority, Frankfurt.

One possible secenario is crew hours and availability of standbys @ LHR?

At the expense of another hour of medical emergency? You can quickly jump seat crew from LHR to FRA on any scheduled flight.

Severe food poisoning so presumably a question of facilities and passenger dignity rather than life or death. Not emergency descent territory and I guess it's possible that routings offered for Frankfurt or Brussels were also lengthy.
EDIT - looks as though it go a direct route to finals for R/W27 without the customary orbits over Lambourn or Biggin.

IMHO, Frankfurt is not a good airport to divert into unless on fire.
If food poisoning, many things need to be considered following diversion:
* Passenger hotel accommodation and onward flight
* Ground handling
* Buses etc
* Refuelling if necessary
* Baggage reconciliation
* Immigration requirements
* Aircraft may need engineering check before next flight.
Decision prob along lines of "not life threatening, LHR best place, with option to divert into Dusseldorf / Amsterdam / Brussels if situation deteriorates en route".

Perhaps the Frankfurters were the problem? :-)

Quite a few evacuation flights from Enfidha and Monastir. Thomas Cook using third party carriers Avion Express and Smartlynx, although it looks as though they were actually operating for TCX prior to yesterday.
Swiss air ambulance also heading in what looks like a UK direction.
